Going green is a lifestyle. One in which I am trying to adapt to myself. On my quest to become more eco-friendly, I decided to start with something fun and easy, beauty products. Through my search, I found some amazing products, which I am about to share with you. All of the beauty products listed below are free of parabens, phthalates, and other harsh chemicals.
Beauty innovators, CARGO Cosmetics, revolutionized eco-friendly beauty with PlantLove™ lipsticks, the first-ever environmentally friendly lipstick in packaging made entirely from corn. In addition to lipsticks, CARGO expanded the line to now include: bronzer, eye shadow, loose powder foundation, blush, lip-gloss, eyeliner, and lip liner.
My favorite pieces include the bronzer, lipstick, and eye shadow. The bronzer ($28) is easy-to-blend, gives a natural sun-kissed glow. Another plus to the bronzer is that there is no shimmer. The lipstick ($20) goes on smoothly and the innovative botanical formula is nourishing on the lips. The eye shadow ($20) is smooth, easy-to-blend and infused with natural and organic ingredients for healthy skin and incredible wear. The PlantLove collection is available at Sephora and Sephora.com.
Organix® hair care effectively cleanses, conditions and treats all hair types. The collection includes shampoo, conditioner, treatment and styling products that energizes, hydrates, and creates a soft, frizz-finish. I have been using the Cucumber Yogurt shampoo and conditioner and my hair immediately felt smoother and looked more vibrant. In addition to Cucumber Yogurt, Organix offers yummy flavors including but not limited to Energizing Passionfruit Guava, Fortifying Lavender Soymilk, and Moisturizing Grapefruit Mango Butter.
New for 2009 is the Revitalizing Pomegranate Green Tea Anti-Frizz Serum. It is a sensual blend of organic pomegranate extracts and green tea, which instantly helps resurface the hair, eliminates frizz, and mends split ends. During the hot days, we had the past few weeks, I put a little drop of this serum in my hair, and my frizz instantly disappeared. For anyone that is looking for the eco-version of John Frieda Frizz Serum, look no further. The Pomegranate Green Tea Anti-Frizz Serum is what you are looking for. I highly recommend it. You would think that these products are very expensive, when in fact, every Organix product retails for only $6.99 each, and they are available at Target, Wal-Mart, CVS, and other exceptional retailers worldwide.
Burt’s Bees® is the leading manufacturer of Earth-friendly natural personal care products. They manufacture over 150 products in categories including face care, body care, hair care, lip care, men's grooming, baby care, and outdoor remedies. I know their lip balm is their most famous and best seller, but I am a fan of their Fabulously Fresh Peppermint & Rosemary Body Wash. The peppermint scent is so refreshing and rejuvenating that it makes a hot shower even more relaxing. Afterwards your skin feels clean and smooth. The body wash retails for $8.99 and is available at Target stores.
Lavanila Laboratories, the healthy choice for deodorants delivers superior odor protection and vitamin-rich nourishment without the use of harsh chemicals. The key ingredients to make this deodorant safe and healthy include: Beta Glucan Technology to nourish & protect; Goji Berry (one of the most powerful anti-oxidants on earth) to nourish & calm; Japanese Honeysuckle to preserve & soothe; Propanediol gives luxurious texture & feel; Antibacterial oils such as lichen, lemon and tea tree oils; Aloe vera to calm and soothe. Lavanila comes in four clean scents including Vanilla Lavender, Pure Vanilla, Vanilla Grapefruit, and my personal favorite, Vanilla Coconut, which is exotic and fresh. Lavinila retails for $18.00 and is sold at Sephora, Sephora.com, or Lavanila.com.
Sumbody offers all-natural, organic, handmade soaps, skin care, body care, and mineral makeup, natural bath soaps such as goat milk soap, herbal soap, glycerin soap, and lavender soap. They use natural ingredients such as fresh mango, avocado, wholesome oils, sea salt, herbs, clay, milk, rice, and honey. I personally recommend trying the bonbons ($3.95 each) and the salt scrubs ($19.95 for small, $31.95 for large). Both exfoliate and moisturize leaving skin smooth, soft, and healthy. If you need something stronger, use the bonbons. They offer a richer concentration of butters for more intense moisture, and they are a stronger exfoliation then the jarred scrubs. The collection is available at http://www.sumbody.com/.
Sonoma Soap Company recently introduced a new line of all-natural body care products, including: shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps, bath and shower gels, shaving creams and body lotions that capture the essence and organic goodness of California’s wine country. Every Sonoma Soap Company product is made from a blend of certified organic ingredients, including lavender, citrus, wildflowers, cedarwood, oatmeal, maple and more. The collection includes: shampoo ($9.95), conditioner ($9.95), bubble bath ($9.95), foaming hand soap ($8.95), hand lotion ($9.95), liquid hand soap ($8.95), shower gel ($9.95), and shave cream ($8.95). The products come in fresh, summery scents such as Citrus Melody, Lavender Reserve, and First Crush. My personal faves include the Lavender Reserve hand lotion. It leaves your hands smelling great and there is no greasy residue. I also like the Citrus Melody foaming hand soap. It is soft on your hands and it does not have a drying effect like majority of soaps. The collection is available online at www.sonomasoapcompany.com.
