Two reels of tape containing what seems to be described as an unreleased studio jam recorded during sessions for Harry Nilsson's "Pussy_Cats" album go on sale at Bonhams on June 14.

Here's the full description from the website:

Lot No: 6346
A John Lennon and others likely never-before-heard set of reel-to-reel tape recordings, 1974

Two 7 1/2 IPS [inches per second] tapes with audio of John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, and other musicians rehearsing at the Record Plant East Studios in NYC for Nilsson's album, 'Pussy_Cats,' that Lennon was producing at the time. Approximately 95 minutes in length, songs heard on these recordings include: Rock Island Line, Midnight Special, Wake Up Little Susie, Railroad Bill, Everyday, Maybe Baby (all with Paul Simon), Let the Good Times Roll, Send Me Some Loving, Baby I Want to Play House, Stand By Me, Give Me Head (improv), Alright Alright, You Can't Catch Me, That's Alright Mama, Well Alright (jam), Do You Wanna Dance, Dance All Night, Can't Get It Right (jam), We're Having a Party, Keep Your Hands Off My Baby, Stand By Me, Groupie Talk, Goodnight Baby, Johnny B. Goode, Slippin' n' Slidin', Whole Lotta Shakin', Mean Woman Blues, Be Bop a Lula, I Couldn't Sleep at All, Stand on My Face (improv). Some snippets of funny conversation and talk about the music can also be heard throughout. Included are two CD transfers of these reel-to-reel tapes plus one CD of highlights from it.

Reel Diameter: 7in

Estimate: $40,000 - 45,000
A source who told us they had heard a portion of the tape described it as "definitely authentic," but said it was unclear if Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel are on it. Nilsson is heard saying "Goodbye, Paul" and "stick around Artie" at one point and says there are harmony voices singing on "Rock Island Line," but it's can't be confirmed it's Simon and Garfunkel . Lennon is playing electric guitar and singing, Nilsson is playing drums and singing and both have had too much to drink. Lennon is particularly crude -- if the improv song titled "Give Me Head" is any indication.

The source also confirmed this is not from the "A Toot And a Snore" session with Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Jesse Ed Davis that has circulated on bootlegged recordings.

"It will be interesting to see if anyone thinks it's worth it to shell out $40k (or more) for a drunken studio session with not much real music," the source concluded.

Sounds like the version of Stand by me that was auctioned last year, wonder if it's from that session.
    John was intoxicated.

Interesting. I hope more of the like comes to the surface.

No, that's the "Toot and a Snore" tape they refer to in the story.
With Stevie Wonder. John's actually saying "a toot and a snort" not "snore." That tape is a train wreck.
