Doug Sulpy's comments about the remasters came in after we'd published our previous column. (Our fault, not his, since we emailed him late.) Anyway, here are Doug's thoughts:
Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I would personally rather have seen a bottom-up remix, along the lines of what they did for 'Pet Sounds.' The original '60's mixes for the earlier albums are hopelessly dated. I'm not sure that simply tweaking them will be enough to draw younger audiences into The Beatles' music.
One of our Abbeyrd Beatles Page bloggers, The Beatcomber, has his take on the remasters news.
And another of our bloggers, Yer Blog, did a David Letterman-type Top 10 List on yesterday's news:
Top 10 Most Disappointing Things About the Beatles Remasters
10. Does not include the Tony Sheridan sessions
9. Not available on cassette
8. No box set of "Backwards" versions to hear "Paul Is Dead" clues.
7. Only available on antiquated compact disc technology
6. Does not include remixes by Dangermouse
5. Only sold with limited edition Beatles compact disc player
4. Not included: Neil Young's "Time Fades Away"
3. This is being issued before the Badfinger box set.
2. 9-9-09 is not the release date - it's the list price
1. It was too much of a rush job
The Daily Express has a story about Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr having intentions to work together in the aftermath of the David Lynch benefit show. A close source told us they doubted it was true.
And the picture at the right needs no explanation. Our thoughts are with the people in the area.

Comments
Actually there is another story confirming that Paul did or is about to add bass guitar to a new song Ringo co-wrote with a Nashville songwriter. The songwriter was interviewed and gushed about having RIngo and Paul both recording a song he cowrote with Ringo
SO doubt all you want
Sad photo.
#2 on the list is so true!
Hopefully after this we'll get something out of the vein of The Doors and REM with the albums remixed in a double disc cd/dvd audio set (5.1) (obviously more than one cd disc for the White Album).
Got something to say?
