Ringo Starr to release 'Soundstage' appearance on DVD Sept. 15

"Soundstage: Ringo Starr and the Roundheads - Live," the former Beatle's live 2005 performance for the PBS series "Soundstage," will be released on DVD Sept. 15 by E1 (formerly Koch) Video, the label announced Wednesday.

The 14-song set, which hasn't been released on DVD previously, includes the Beatles’ classics “Yellow Submarine,” “With A Little Help From My Friends,” and “Octopus’s Garden” as well as "Photograph” and "Memphis In Your Mind" from Ringo's solo career. Special guest Colin Hay of Men At Work joins Starr onstage for “Who Can It Be Now.”

The DVD runs 56 minutes and includes extra features, though the DVD announcement had no details.

This DVD was recently part of the DeLuxe edition of the Soundstage album on Koch, it had 1 CD + 1 DVD and was released April 7th. So this is just the DVD for those who bought the earlier edition of the Soundstage album, I presume... except that they've already bought the DeLuxe, because who knew the DVD would be released as a standalone...

Roger: The whole performance hasn't been out before. The DVD in that package you mentioned had only a few tracks ... four, I believe. This has 14 tracks..

This is great news, I bought the cd a year ago, and now this, very cool.
I also wish they would release Ringo's 1998 VH1 Storytellers on dvd, though it was released in limited quantities on vhs, there's nothing like a crisp clear disc.
I just love the fact that it's only Ringo singing the whole show, though I love his All Starr band, seeing Ringo alone is such a treat.

I also hope they release a dvd/cd of Ringo and his All Starr band's 2008 tour.

I would rather have had it on BluRay, but I reckon the DVD is better than nothing.

Strange it isn't also being released on Blu-ray disc. When Voom was around this show was often shown in HD.

This is welcomed news to me as I was at the show and wrote an excrutiatingly detailed report that Steve posted on his own Beatles News Page.

However, who is going to have any money left on Sept. 15 to buy this?

Can someone assure me that this new dvd is the same dvd as with the one with "de luxe" doens't sell much probably but is version ? Is all this correct ? I feel cheated and I'm angry on Koch ! ! TYhe best thing Ringo did was "storytellers" indeed, when will they milk that cow ? Raph

Raph: All the information I've been able to gather says this is a new DVD. The DVD released in the deluxe package was different.

The dvd in the deluxe edition is a different entity than the upcoming Soundstage dvd. This features footage from recording "Choose Love" through to all the promotional appearances. Lots of backstage footage with Ringo on piano, TONS of Ringo on drums, Ringo playing drums on "Bad Boy", and singing "Slow Down". As far as the four songs included:
    1. "Choose Love" is the studio version synched to rehearsal footage.
    2. "It Don't Come Easy" is from the rather ornate Genesee Theatre.
    3. "The Greatest" is a rehearsal take with crowd noise dubbed in. It's made up of rehearsal and concert footage.
    4. "Don't Pass Me By" is from the California concert.
