On Thursday afternoon, Ringo Starr issued this very Ringoish statement in reaction to the news he'd been awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
A Star for a Starr!
Ringo is delighted; having heard the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will be honoring him with a star in 2010 on the Walk Of Fame. Ringo said, “A star for a Starr – what an honor and a privilege it is to be walked on! Peace & Love.”
As we reported earlier, Ringo was one of 28 luminaries announced by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce this week who will receive stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010.
One of those is Cirque Du Soleil and Guy Laliberté, whose live shows include the Beatles "Love." Others include Randy Newman, Chris Berman, Jimmy Kimmel, Bill Maher, Sam Waterston, Van Morrison, ZZ Top, Andrea Bocelli and a posthumous award to Roy Orbison, aka Lefty Wilbury.

In the 1960's, Leonard Bernstein suggested that the Beatles were our age's Schubert. And in what is said to be his final interview, published in the current Rolling Stone, he described them as "the best songwriters since Schubert"
Yes, I think Ringo deserves it all and more! The reason being that after all come on he is a member of one of the most culturally important groups to be recognized in the world! Even on a scale of for humanity The Beatles really have a culturally important place. Does Ringo come off as a little "Yay me" at times? YES and I think he deserves to be proud as hell. It's good that he can get the recognition while he is still here with us. Elevate people, why not? He's a human. He's great. Why not? If he ever gets old and grumpy and full of himself, so what? Give it to him LOL. Only the secretly jealous poopoo the successful really. We should all look in the mirror. Happy to all & to RINGO the great! LOL Peace & Love! LOL
Yeah Ringo! Glad he got his star before Pauley. John and George would be proud.
"Yeah Ringo! Glad he got his star before Pauley"
Lol. The cynic in me says that Paul WANTS to be the last Beatle to get a star. Whatever, I love them all equally. :o)
I might as well go and LIVE in L.A. this year...the entire list is great, but have waitied for this for Ringo for as long as I can remember being alive (1964)..That's when a beautiful older sister in Toronto brought her four year old baby sister her first Beatles L.P. As Barrington Womble has been while hiding in the van, all of us here in Canada have been "Livin in Hope" for this STARR...Congrats Ringo, WE LOVE YOU!
P.S. I hear you Kathy and always tend to agree, but then I remember.... Front Row, Centre, Exhibition Stadium, Toronto, June 6, 1992....with Linda. There was "Peace in the Neighbourhood" that night and if I EVER had a chance to meet "The Man who LOVED HIS WIFE" I would ask him to whistle a bit of "THIS ONE" song.....for me.
So when does Pete Best get a Star?
This is great news for Ringo and all of us who have loved him since the Beatles came to America (I "was just seventeen; you know what I mean"). Now the NEXT thing I hope Ringo will get is a little respect from those who don't understand his role in music history. It's not about who was the "best" rock drummer (fastest; flashiest). Ringo was the FIRST. He has always had the uncanny ability to know what the music needed. Way back when he played for the Hurricanes he knew something was missing in rock and roll and he was the first drummer to break away from the more refined drumming of jazz and swing to create a gutsier sound that released the latent power in this new musical genre. His backbeat is still the standard of perfection. He gave rock and roll its beating heart, and for that ALL drummers owe him a tremendous debt. The flashy technicians who came after him walked through the door that Ringo had kicked off its hinges. THANK YOU RINGO, and congratulations!
softheartedana: aww, lucky you! what a great show that must have been. They all deserve stars and I can't wait to see Ringo get his and then Paul. What a day that will be.
And I can't wait to be center field at the concert in new york next month!!
Well I told my friends that prob Paul agreed to have Ringo get his first because he knows Ringo gets slighted more than the others. Paul gets awards for songwriting and legends awards, and Ringo usually doesn't. And remember that Ringo the message Ringo sent to George's ceremony, "Wheres MY Star?" LOL
And I also told them that when Paul gets his last in 2011, Stella can get another wearing out of that t-shirt!!
corr.. remember the message that Ringo sent to George's ceremony....
Oh please .. If i ponied up the twenty six grand i could have a star, this is just really meaningless, tho i suppose he does deserve it for his stellar acting career.
You invented a word! Ringoish. You have to submit that to urban dictionary.
I'm so happy for our dear curmudgeonly starkeyman. :)
*sigh* I fear we shall never see Brian Epstein properly honoured. :(
