The scene before the show in Dallas. (Photo by Allan.)

Here's a report from the Dallas show Wednesday. Paul McCartney added Buddy Holly's "It's So Easy" to the set especially for Dallas. Here's the report from Allan. You can see more photos in the slideshow at the bottom:

Hi Steve,

Just got home from the McCartney Dallas show, it was without a doubt, the best concert I ever attended.

Here is the set list and info :

Between Mrs. Vanderbilt and Eleanore Rigby, Paul performed "It's so easy" as a tribute to Buddy Holly, Paul said it's the only time he's performed it live.

The concert was planned for 7:30 pm, but Paul didn't take the stage until 9:00 pm, the had an opening act from 7:30 till 8:00, they were from Ireland called "the Script".

Me and a friend arrived at the Cowboy's stadium at 4:30 pm, and walked around till they opened the doors at 6:30 pm.

It's a very nice venue, but the parking was 30 dollars and beers sold for 6 bucks a bottle.

Paul was very energetic and in top form, his voice was better than ever.

Saw the Beatles in '64, Paul in 2005 - so I KNOW what he sounds like & he puts on a great concert, but Jerry Jones' Palace is a horrible venue & a waste Paul's talents. The sound was terrible. We had front row seats - the reverb/echo just ruined the music. I'd been looking forward to this for ages & was so disappionted I could have cried.
I hope he'll come back and play in a venue where the music can be appreciated.
Bottom line: Don't waste your money buying a concert ticket at the stadium if you care about the sound.
Won't even go into the late opening of the doors, people passing out in the heat, slow service, etc.

I attended the show and got luck with 2nd row center seats.

    I'm still processing what happened.

Part of me turned off my brain and just did not think about it.

I knew we were really up close when you could feel the heat of the pyrotechnics, you could hear the subtle changes the lead guitar player would make to his volume / tone knobs on his guitars and see the beads of sweat on the band members' faces.

As of now, I can only sum it up as The Magical Mystery Historical Musical Tour.

Just heard the reason Paul came on an hour late,it was because Paul was waiting for everyone to get to their seats, the lines were very long.
The Dallas Cowboys will play their first game on Friday night, it will be the first football game played there.
Being a bit higher than the floor, the sound was fine, and the best part of the night was the indoor fireworks, they were spectacular.
Loved the story Paul told about Jimi Hendrix asking Eric Clapton to come up and tune his guitar, I'm sure he was joking, but Paul's tribute to Buddy Holly was very heart felt, hope they release the live version of It's so easy.
Left the show at 11:40, but didn't get out of the parking lot until 12:50, then the street traffic kept me from getting home until after 2 am, but it was well worth all of it to see Paul.

Paul mentioned that after the concert, he and the band were going on holiday, and that it was the last show of the summer tour.
But he did say, "see you next time".

Went to see Paul with my girlfriend and another couple. We parked in the Rangers lot for $12 and walked to the Cowboys stadium, a whole ten minutes away.

Once we got inside it was nice and air conditioned and we made a bee-line towards what we thought would be the best area for our $45 standing room tickets. Our girls took off to get some drinks and when they came back they said a man who looked like he worked there asked them if they were there alone. 10-15 minutes later the same guy confronts us, asks us if we can make a lot of noise for the show tonight and hands us tickets for floor seats! Little did we know that these were hands down the best seats in the house! Front Row and Center for the legend himself, Paul McCartney!!!

Needless to say an already incredible night got exponentially better as we were all left in shock and awe by such a marvelous performance. It was the best show I have ever had the privilege of attending, something I will never forget.

    Thanks Paul

Ditto to Linda. We were told 4 different times by "Event Staff" when the doors would open. They need to make sure next time that the right hand knows what the left is doing. I'm really hacked that I paid $175.00 for floor seats and couldn't even see the stage at all. By the end of the concert I was standing in 1/4" of beer (people didn't care that those behind them couldn't see). Excuse me, but the average age of the audience was probably 55. People, next time, SIT DOWN. It really would be more enjoyable for everyone. I agree, the venue was terrible for sound. But Paul rocked!! He could have sung the phone book and everyone would love it.

I can only repeat what has been said. The show was INCREDIBLE. At 67 years old he sounded like he did when we (Paul and I) were younger. I was tired just from watching... The drummer was a show himself. He worked harder than all the others combined. I won 2 luxury seats which was cool as the bathroom was a few feet away and free drinks and food. Front row(s) center had to be terrific. I agree with the sound system. Too bad if J Jones doesn't improve this issue. The stadium is great other than that. I saw estimates for 38,000 people in attendence....there were that many on the floor. Unless I'm missing something, where would all those people sit during a game if the stadium holds 100+ thousand.

Your set list is incorrect on number 8. He didn't do All My Loving, he did My Love.

    Thanks S.J.,
My mistake, it was My love, not All my loving.
Paul did a great job on My love, it sounded just like the original.

Cowboy stadium is dreadful. Long lines, horrible parking, poor traffic flow. Suite levels have VERY limited (or no) food service outside the suites. Acoustics are still echoing. The employees were clueless as to elevators, stairs, bathrooms and other services. Another Jerry Jones disaster.

Everything being said about the stadium is true. Event staff sent me the wrong direction. Once inside, it took me an hour to get to my seat, being a mass of sweaty people the entire time.

The echo seemed better during Paul than it was for the Script.

The Script started at their usual time, but it was longer between the end of their set and his start time.

Same story about the parking lot, but then we sat up talking until 3 AM.

Paul was his usual great self and I don't know how he does it.

Awesome show, Paul McCartney was amazing and he has a nice tight band with him. Unfortunately JerryWorld is a really bad venue. Staff didn't know their jobs, and the sound was awful - I understand why Paul took an extra 45 minutes on the soundcheck but I was in section C, Row near the front (less than 10 rows) and the sound was muddy and confused and way over amped at the PA system. If that's an improvement over previous concerts, I really feel sorry for the George Strait audience. I'll go to sports events there, but no concerts until they find a sound engineer who knows what he's doing for a concert sound system. In all I think it was what we've come to expect from Jerry - all show and no performance. Traffic wasn't really bad considering - we were at home and in bed in uptown Dallas but 1AM. But I do thing the local politicians need to roll some heads at TxDOT for failing to get the road work done in the time scale they promised.

I attended the concert 8/19/09. Paul McCartney was amazing. I was very dissapponted in the sound in the stadium. The echo was horrible and it made the music sound poor. I also had my view of the back part of the stage blocked (I was not able to see the drummer or the keyboard player). I also don't understand why the big screen in the middle was not used to show the concert. I was in section C138 row 19 seats 12 and 13. I paid about $200 per ticket for a partially obstucted view and horrible accoutics. I will likely never attend another music concert at the stadium again. So obviously I was very disappointed. Even when Paul was just talking at the microphone it was very hard to understand what he was saying. I've been to music concertas at the AA center and numerous other venues and have never had the sound as horrible as the Cowboys Stadium. I look forward to your thoughts on this issue.

    Sincerely,

    Randy E. H

Didn't Paul perform I't's So Easy in 1979 at a Buddy Holly week concert with Linda, Denny, Don Everlys and the Crickets?

Seeing and hearing Paul made up for what a horrible waiting experience it was. We were told the stadium opens at 6:00. Right, whatever. People passing out, feeling lousy, and pretty much ruining their evening. Note to Jerry: You are driven to make a buck. Why don't you open early? Then people would be able to eat and drink your expensive food. You could have made a fortune, probably paid the stadium off. Or maybe you just open early to get your paying fans out of the heat and "do the right thing" for someone other than yourself.

What a pleasure to be entertained by a Beatle!!! It was a great show. We were able to hear much of the soundcheck, including Matchbox, Coming Up, All My Loving, Lady Madonna, and others. My seats were Sec D 5th row in front of the left big screen. I could see okay and the sound was what I expect in a stadium and was better than Texas Stadium in '90. Vocals were fine, but Rusty's guitar was hard to hear. Great show & I'll go everytime, but after seeing '02 & '05, it's starting to get as rehearsed as the Ringo show. "Let me drink this in", "Guys turn to sing Na Na Na Na". Loved Day Tripper & It's So Easy, but my highlights were "I'm Down" & "Mrs V". Was a little freaked by the god-like Obama in space during "Sing The Changes", but whatever.

Although most of what was said above was true re: Cowboy Stadium - we were 24 rows back on the floor and all that matters was that I got to see Paul McCartney LIVE!!! Incrediable concert!!!!

i agree with Jims comments below about size of crowd. I read too that it was 38,000,but it was jammed. We were on row 23,section B and took a peek behind the curtains and it didnt look like there were many seats not used behind that curtain. If it seats 80-100,000,there had to be more than 38,000 there. What a concert,Paul put on great show.It was our 4th time to see him, will be there again if he keeps going!!!

To those that say audience members should sit down...No--if I want to sit down, I'll go to a movie...or a polo match. What do you think the performers think when the whole audience is sitting down???

I beg to differ with the average age of those in attendance being 55. I'm not that old and there were lots of youngsters, teens, and twenty-somethings all around me. It really was awesome!
