Monkees mini-reunion features Beatle talk and Fab Four songs at Boston area celeb convention

It was half of a Monkees reunion Saturday as Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork sang and told stories about themselves and the Beatles at the Boston Super MegaFest in Framingham, Mass. Here's an account of the two Monkees' appearance from Charles Rosenay (who's also the Horror Happenings Examiner):

As a prelude to his appearance at BEATexpo 2009 next weekend at the Downtown Stamford Holiday Inn, Peter Tork just completed a set as part of his guest spot at the Boston area Mega-Fest convention in Framingham, MA. He sprinkled his set with old Monkees favorites and some choice blues and buegrass tunes, but pleased the crowd with a rousing "Lady Madonna." But the highlight came when, toward the end of the set, Peter shouted to the back of the ballroom, paging a mister "George Michael." After several attempts and no response, he shouted "Micky!" and from the rear of the room came Micky Dolenz onstage to join him.

Dolenz told the audience of the time he met "British royalty" - not the queen - but The Beatles! He went on to tell of his Abbey Road experience, and how The Beatles were all dressed in jeans, but that George Martin was in a suit. And he said that the following came out of the speakers, before he ripped into a scorching "Oh Darling," which is perfectly suited for Micky's vocal range. They ended with Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode."

In addition to the two Monkees, the event featured a long list of celebrities, including James Marsters of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," Ray Park, Darth Maul of "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace," Brent Spiner, Data of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," a reunion of the cast of "The Six Million Dollar Man" with Lindsay Wagner (Jamie Sommers), Richard Anderson (Oscar Goldman) and Janice Whitby (bionic villain Fembot), Larry Storch (Corporal Agarn) of "F Troop," Vincent Pastore of "The Sopranos," Terry Sylvester of the Hollies, Cindy Morgan ("TRON") and many more.

Thanks to Steve and Charles!!! for the report. I wish I could have been there. Sounds like it was fun. I did get to see Micky in July at the Dundalk Heritage Festival. He performed Oh Darling at that show and it was awesome.

I hope the Beat Expo is a huge success.
