McCartney website salutes Dylan Rolling Stone comments

It's probably nothing more than a tip of the hat to Bob Dylan, a longtime friend of Paul McCartney and the Beatles, for the comments Dylan made in the most recent issue of Rolling Stone.

But Paul McCartney's official website has acknowledged the remarks the former Mr. Zimmerman made by printing a news item on them.

Here's what the McCartney website posted on May 14:

Bob Dylan in this month's Rolling Stone

More kind words from Bob Dylan on Paul in this month's Rolling Stone Magazine. In an interview Dylan speaks about wanting to work with Paul. He says, "That'd be exciting to do something with Paul! But, ya know, your paths have to cross for something like that to make sense."

Previously, in 2007 Dylan told Rolling Stone, "I'm in awe of McCartney. He's the only one I'm in awe of. He can do it all. And he's never let up...He's just so damn effortless."

So what? In an age where most remarks like these just slip by without any mention, it's, at the very least, interesting to notice that these didn't.

Dylan's recent release, "Together Through Life," is the No. 1 Rock Album, according to Billboard.

In an age of cut-throat competition, it's simply wonderful to read kind words expressed from a true artist who has no self-promotional interest or need to say them. The complements come across as genuine and heart felt.

Gee - if the Harrison alliance catalyzed the humorous Tweeter and The Monkey Man, what would McCartney bring out in Mr. Zimmerman?

If Dylan had written with Macca already would these Liverpool type songs have been the result?

A songwriting collaboration would be interesting; Bob probably likes Macca's recent attempts with the mandolin. A tour would be dreadful.

Anyway, they're not an obvious fit. Why not Andrew Bird, Bob? Or Jack White? Or, er, N-Dubz?

Dylan's comments were in direct response Macca recently saying that if the one artist he would like to collaborate with...it would be Bob.

Paul has always been one to write to people or leave a message on their voice mail to tell them how much he likes their work or latest CD. He apparently is rather well known for doing that. A new band was interviewed recently and the lead singer said that Paul left him a voice mail saying he really liked their CD - the guy burnt the message to a CD so he would have it forever.
It always nice to hear that real artists like Dylan and McCartney appreciate each others talents.
Paul also has a reputation for helping others when they are in need - quietly.

This would be a fantastic collaboration. Paul would benefit from the lyrical challenge and Dylan from a boost in melody. Paul seems to be great friends with David Gilmour, now imagine what could really be. I for one, would be very happy as long as Paul gives up the one-man-band method of recording he has stuck to recently. I want to hear interplay between musicians these days.

Paul McCartney would have to slow right down to work with Bob Dylan, awake on his feet. Dylan's lyrics are as diarrhoea, high flow with diluted quality. Macca rocks, which Dylan can't, neither has he entered senility.

I think Dylan would be unpredictable. And that kind of collaboration works with McCartney. Elvis Costello's collaboration with Paul was fantastic. I don't think anyone figured it would be.
