"Nowhere Boy" will be released on DVD and Blu-ray DVD in the UK May 10, it was announced today by Icon Home Entertainment. No release, either in theaters or on DVD, has been announced for the U.S.
"Nowhere Boy" dramatizes John Lennon's teenage years and his music from The Quarrymen to his early relationship with Paul McCartney and George Harrison, culminating in the formation of the Beatles and their trip to Hamburg.
Featuring a screenplay from Matt Greenhalgh (Joy Division biopic "Control"), "Nowhere Boy" stars Aaron Johnson as the young John Lennon, plus BAFTA nominated Best Supporting Actress performances from Kristin Scott Thomas as Aunt Mimi and Anne Marie Duff as Lennon's mother Julia.
Bonus features on the DVD and Blu-ray releases will include director's audio commentary, extended interviews, deleted scenes and several exclusive featurettes, including "Lennon's Liverpool" and "The Re-creation of the Quarrymen."
Although there has been no theatrical release, the movie's showings in the U.S. to this point have been limited to film festivals.

Damn-it! I wanted to see this in a U.S. theater. This looks like a very good film and our friends from the U.K. on Steve's Board who saw it loved it. Very powerful most agreed. Maybe there is still a chance but why no word on its U.S. fate?
My understanding is that the Weinstein Group bought the rights to US distribution. If you go to their website it's on the "coming soon" list. If there is no announcement about a release date here by the time the DVD comes out in Britain I will buy the DVD, especially because the extras sound nice. Then if it's released in the US I'll go see it anyway.
Was this every shown in US theaters? I was hoping to see it. I will buy the DVD if it comes out in North American format.
Waitaminute, youse missing sumpin. That Black-hole of evil and greed and exploitation of John, whose name must not be spoken or written, licensed 'Mother' for the film, so shouldn't we all be hating it? Oh, I know, let's save it for when the film is released in the US, and then start screaming about the money-grab.
I really hope this comes out in theatres in the U.S. But it is coming out March 27th in Canada. So I guess... there's a potential road trip in order if nothing else...
See the newer story I just put up. Just confirmed there is no scheduled release date, though the distributor says they're working on it. http: //bit.ly/dojAC5
