Here comes the anniversary: Beatles strolled across Abbey Road 40 years ago this Saturday

A special celebration of that now famous walk across Abbey Road 40 years ago this week by the four Beatles that was used on the cover of that iconic album is definitely coming together and in a big way.

"I've had enquiries from NBC, CBS, CNN, Reuters TV, BBC World Service, and TV stations in Russia, France and Spain!," says Richard Porter of http://www.beatlesinlondon.com, who conducts regular walking tours to Beatle sites and Abbey Road and is organizing the celebration. "NBC and CBS will both be covering the event in their breakfast shows."

On Aug. 8, 1969, photographer Iain Macmillan stood on a stepladder in the middle of Abbey Road as George Harrison, a barefoot Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and John Lennon walked across the zebra crossing just outside the studio gates as Macmillan snapped away.

Six shots were taken as the Fab Four crossed the road several times and a policeman held up traffic. McCartney later picked the best of the six for the sleeve. McCartney's bare feet later became one of the many clues in the infamous "Paul Is Dead" myth.

On Saturday, an exact replica of John Lennon's psychedelic Rolls Royce will pull up by the crossing at 11.35 a.m. Beatle tribute band Sgt. Pepper's Only Dart Board Band will get out of the car and lead fans across the crossing exactly 40 years to the minute when the Beatles did it.

Those who can't attend can watch the event on the official Abbey Road webcam.

Also, starting at noon that day, author and Beatles associate Tony Bramwell will be signing copies of his book "Magical Mystery Tours - My Life with the Beatles" at the Beatles Coffee Shop, located at St John's Wood Underground Station, just down the street from Abbey Road.

According to Mark Lewisohn, 11:35 a.m., which is when the limo is pulling up to Abbey Road, as it says in the story.

That is such a GREAT album cover. There was/is so much for us to scrutinize and analyze. So much fun.

Paul was not actually left handed. He only played guitar left handed.
