Ringo Starr's Grammy nominated "5.1: The Surround
Sound Collection" is now on E1 Records as a result
of a name change by Koch Records.
- Is the Paul McCartney Coachella Valley Music and Arts Fair gig just a rumor and nothing more? We wondered about this already and last night sent an email to Paul McCartney's press rep in the UK asking if the news that was being reported was accurate. Here was his reply that came Friday: "Not accurate to my knowledge." We sent a note to the festival, but heard nothing from them as of yet. That's not completely unexpected. Any publicity, especially about associating someone like Paul McCartney to your event, is good publicity from the festival's point of view. But the "proof" that this is happening at all has been shaky from the outset. Don't pack your bags.
- As for the other McCartney gig that's been in the air, the Radio City Music Hall show on April 4th for the David Lynch Foundation, we had some unofficial information late last night that the website was taken down because the announcement was premature and would be put back up soon. Makes sense, and right now this looks like the more likely one to take place. But neither are certainly concrete.
- The latest on the Savile Row rooftop concert tribute: Richard Porter of http://www.beatlesinlondon.com and http://www.beatlescoffeeshop.com sent us this:
- Paul McCartney guitarist Brian Ray posted a new blog on MySpace Friday. He gave a progress report on his next album, and the help he's getting from some members of the Black Crowes and Elvis Costello's band, among others, and says there will be "other surprises as well." He also says he's enlisting suggestions from blog subscribers for the album. Finally, he commented on the inauguration of President Obama, saying "I am stunned and I feel open and optimistic in a way that I haven't in so many years."
- In his latest blog post, Sean Lennon talks about the live Chimera artists show he and his mom Yoko Ono just did in Japan. He says the reaction was good. A sample CD of Chimera artists is available on Japanese iTunes and Japanese Amazon. A U.S. version is planned soon. A children's book he illustrated with text in Japanese and English has also been published by Kodanshya in Japan. He says he'll be in the U.S. in early Feb to record a new album for his mother, then to Paris Feb. 25 for a Serge tribute with John Zorn. And a Chimera artists concert in the U.S. is planned.
- Koch Records, the home of Ringo Starr's Grammy nominated "Ringo 5.1" collection, pictured at right, and audio and DVD releases by Ringo Starr and the All-Starr Band, has changed its name to E1 Records, effectively immediately, reports Billboard.biz. A label spokesman confirmed to us in an email that all future Ringo Starr releases that would have been on Koch will now be on the E1 label. Ringo Starr's most recent solo album, "Liverpool 8," was on Capitol Records.
- And a new show listing for Dhani Harrison's thenewno2: Feb. 11 at the Key Club, 9039 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles. Doors open at 7 p.m. $10 advan
ce, $12 day of the show. Ages 15 and over. Box offic e: (310) 274-5800.
- And lastly, which is where it belongs, I try to keep away from Heather Mills news, but sometimes you just can't. The New York Post has an item quoting her as saying she's irresistible to men. "I've got so many stunning girlfriends who can't get a boyfriend. But when I go out here, I get asked out all the time, and my girlfriends -- who are better looking than me -- say, 'How the hell does that happen?!' Maybe it's because I'm comfortable with myself." As the Post notes, the nearly $50 milllion she got from Paul McCartney in their divorce settlement might be just a wee small reason. Ya think?

Man, you are in the know! Sure glad I subscribe. I suggest others do, as well. I'm interested to hear more from Sean. Thanks will check out his blog.
Lucy M: Thanks. Spread the word. :)
Great to read that the Chimera release will see a US release "soon". I started to order it from Japan, but with the shipping it came to about $50 USD. Of course I always hate hearing the dreaded word "soon" about any Beatle or Beatle-family project! Wasn't it last August that Dhani said thenewno2 album would come to cd "soon" - still waiting.
Look, cd sales have been steadily dropping, but I read in an industry source that they still account for around 80% in US sales, so why the delay?
I would mention that a recently found yellowed copy of an 1815 newspaper reported that remastered Beatles cds and LET IT BE on dvd would be out "soon". But I won't mention it because that topic has been well-covered. Plus it might cause a time paradox. :-)
E1 says "all future Ringo releases" will be on E1. Does that mean that Ringo's left EMI/Capitol after only 2 albums? Or does it mean all his live releases will still come from E1?
Last and certainly not least, it's great to hear that Sean will be working on a new Yoko album beginning next month! Yoko's kept busy with dance remixes and a fine album - YES I'M A WITCH - of artists re-doing the backing instrumentals of some of her older songs. But we haven't had a new album of new Yoko songs since 2001's BLUEPRINT FOR A SUNRISE - can't wait!
Sorry for the loooong post.
