Reds' Encarnacion may come to Louisville for injury rehabilitation stint

once his bum wrist gets completely healed.
On the disabled list since April 28th with a chip fracture in his left wrist, Cincinnati Reds' third baseman Edwin Encarnacion is starting to get healthy and may be heading to Louisville soon for a rehabilitation assignment with the Bats. The 26-year-old Encarnacion has taken batting practice and did some fielding this past week, but it is unclear when he may start playing in a game setting again. Louisville seems like an ideal destination for Encarnacion before returning to the Reds, as he will need some at-bats to get his mojo back, and the Bats have been using a revolving door at the hot corner all season since Adam Rosales was called up to Cincy when Encarnacion went on the shelf.
Encarnacion, who was hitting just .127 in 19 games this season before his injury, was a triple-A All-Star in his only season with Louisville (2005) before getting his big league call-up. In 78 games with the Bats that season, he had 15 dingers and had an on-base percentage of almost .400. Since his 2005 big-league debut, Edwin has made a few brief appearances in Louisville, either on injury rehabilitation, because of demotion, or when there are beer specials on Bardstown Road. Each time, he has batted over .300 during his time in Derby City.
Over the past three years with the RedLegs, Encarnacion has played over 100 games each season and has been a consistent RBI threat, driving in a career-high 76 runs in 2007. While he has drawn fans' ire with his inconsistencies, he has a career batting average of .261 and blasted 26 homers last year. He should provide the Bats and Reds with some much-needed pop in their lineup if he can return to his pre-injury form.
