Dick Grayson's last round as Batman.
Unless we get some sort of left field surprise, we can all safely assume that Dick Grayson will be the new Batman once the “Battle for the Cowl” dust clears. I thought it might be interesting to look at what some fans have to say about Dick Grayson as Batman.

It would be very misleading of me if I didn’t tell you that these fans aren’t taking about “Battle for the Cowl”. These are actually letters published at the end of Robin #15 back in 1995. This is the fan reaction from Dick Grayson’s last turn in the Batsuit, which was the focus of the 90’s storyline “Prodigal”.
We could assume for the sake of argument that DC was only publishing letters with good responses. Now that the internet has effectively replaced letter columns, fan responses can’t be skewed or censored as they were before. Responses about Dick Grayson taking over Batman are across the board. I for one am excited about it. Nobody can replace Bruce Wayne, but this is just a temporary story. I thought it might be fun to look at what fans were saying last time, and compare it with what is being said now. I suppose some things never change.

I just don't know about the idea of Dick Grayson being Batman. Like you said, no one can replace Bruce Wayne. I think it's interesting but Dick is Nightwing or Robin; in my mind he can't really be Batman. But since it's only temporary, then I guess it's kind of cool.
Although Batman and Bruce Wayne are synonomous, Dick Grayson is the only character that can pull off filling in for Bruce and making you feel proud. Anyone else in the cowl would feel like a gimmick, but with the history Dick has and the experiences he's amassed, he is the only possible replacement. Having him in the cowl makes you almost feel as though we're back in the 60/70's with Bruce. As much as I like Tim Drake's character, he is not a legend like Grayson is. Grayson has the true respect of the DCU's most honored heros and for good reason.
I think Dick Grayson should be the next Batman. He was Batman once already when Bruce had his spine broken. I think that the Nightwing character is just a way of Grayson showing his dark side just because he can't be Batman while Wayne is in town. With Wayne gone, Grayson can become Batman.
I see Dick Grayson as Batman as i see Bucky as Captain America. They have prooven they can handle the mantle of their previous tutors and history shows it :)
