6 starters for 5 slots … awkward
(Beckett, Lester, Lackey, Buchholz, Wakefield, Matsuzaka)
4 cracked ribs … ridiculous
(Beltre’s knee-to-Ellsbury’s-chest hardly instructional video material)
3 DHs … distressing
(Lowell best among peers Ortiz and Martinez)
2 disgruntled veterans … difficult
(Lowell, Wakefield deserve better fates, but that’s baseball)
1 trade for a minor-league backup outfielder … startling
(Is the system really so depleted that Van Every had to be re-acquired?)
Sox postseason outlook: dubious
(Still a good chance my 93-win prediction will prove to be too many)
