Hall of Fame third baseman Brooks Robinson was hospitalized Friday evening after a fall off stage at the player reception and memorabilia auction for the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood, Fla.
The 74-year-old Robinson appeared on stage at the Hard Rock Live, and the crowd of close to 1,000 onlookers cheered as he acknowledged the supporters when his name was called. At the conclusion of the player introductions, Robinson exited the stage, and fell approximately six-to-eight feet while attempting to navigate the stairs.
Doctors in attendance rushed to examine Robinson, who was reported as being coherent and in stable condition. He was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
Robinson was scheduled to appear at the annual Legends Game in Fort Lauderdale stadium on Saturday, which serves as another benefit fundraiser for the hospital.
