Replacing the Martini Lounge on H Street is a breath of tropical air. The Fruit Bat has now taken over 1236 H Street NE.
The Fruit Bat has many a juice cocktail to offer along with a few options for Latin American cuisine. Since the menu only consists of about 10 items all are special and very tasty. They offer fried plantains, tacos, pupusas, and the like. The pupusas come with curtido (Salvadorian Cole slaw) which is a delightful snack or made into a light meal with the fried plantains with sweet cream sauce. Another item to thoroughly enjoy is the pork tacos. These are awesome and definitely worth getting. However, if they have run out for the day be sure to go back, they are one of the best single items on H Street.
As for cocktails anything with fresh squeezed juice is a go. They have a wonderful tropical assortment of fruits; lemons, limes, oranges, bananas, etc. Alcoholic fruit juice is refreshing on any hot DC day. Fruit infused liquors are also available so there is quite the selection. NOTE: while the drinks may seem expensive they do pack a punch (pun intended). So watch out as you have 2 or 3 drinks.
Currently Fruit Bat is only open Wednesday through Saturday starting at 5:30pm. These may change so check back regularly.
