The Triangle area is certainly widely-known for its barbecued meats, boasting spots like The Pit BBQ that draw hungry travelers from miles around. What may come as news to some, though, is that the area is quickly becoming a haven for eateries providing top-notch vegetarian and vegan options. One of the best of this breed can be found perched on the outskirts of Raleigh's Moore Square, and it's called the Remedy Diner.
The decor at the Remedy is a mixture of classic, down-home diner and arty hipster chic. The exposed brick behind the bar, coupled with chalkboard wall menus and tables decorated with paint and acrylics, gives the place a cozy feel from the moment you walk in. If you've showed up on a weekend, though, you might feel a little too cozy - the Remedy's small space is used very efficiently, but it's still a small space. According to their Facebook page, they've recently opened a back patio, which should help to alleviate some of the crowding issues for the remainer of the summer months.
And then there's the reason you'll have so much trouble finding a seat at the Remedy: the food. The menu features a heavy vegetarian and vegan contingent, but does include some meaty sandwiches for those who are so inclined. You can also add meat to most of the dishes if needed. Often, though, the meatless option is so good, even hardened carnivores may opt for it instead (the Black Bean Quesadilla is a great example). All ingredients are extremely fresh and bursting with flavor, and the Remedy makes some of the best guacamole you'll find this side of Guadelajara.
Remedy also serves up drink specials every day of the week and recently extended its operating hours til 2am on Friday and Saturday, making it a great late-night spot to down some meatless nachos and a few $1.50 PBR cans.
