In an age when even your grandmother is on Facebook, many local restaurants, bars, and clubs have decided to get in on the action as well. While you're likely to find a Facebook fan page for most of the bars in the Triangle, a select few are very active and make your "Like" worth the trouble. Here's a short list of the bars you should be watching on Facebook:
1. DIVEbar, 3 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh - DIVEbar's Facebook page is updated on a daily basis, letting fans know the night's drink specials, music lineups, even who's slinging drinks behind the counter. Seeing these updates in your News Feed is great motivation to get out of the house, have a drink, hear some loud music, and make a new friend or two.
2. The Oxford, 319 Fayetteville St, Raleigh - The Oxford, which hails itself as Raleigh's first "gastropub," also updates its page almost daily with specials and updates. The specials here, though, include some of downtown Raleigh's best grub - like the new $9 lunch special menu. You'll also find live music announcements here, as well as what footie games will be on the tele for all you soccer fans.
3. Busy Bee Cafe, 225 S. Wilmington St, Raleigh - Busy Bee was named one of Draft Magazine's 150 best beer bars, due in part to its small but varied collection of beers you won't find anywhere else in the Triangle. Liking the 'Bee on Facebook will get you updates on which rare and delicious brew is being tapped today, as well as beer dinner announcements and the playlist du jour in the upstairs bar, the Hive.
4. Lincoln Theatre, 126 E. Cabarrus St, Raleigh - One of downtown's best music venues provides updates on show days and in advance of bigger shows, keeping you up to date on who's playing at the Lincoln. Also, you'll find lots of buzz around Lincoln's all-new REVOLUTION Raleigh, a sexy, circus-themed dance party coming to the club on Mondays starting August 9th. If your curiosity is piqued, check out the page for updates as the first installment nears.
5. Champions Bars & More, multiple locations in Raleigh and Morrisville - If you love cold beer, good times, sports on TV, and karaoke, Champions is the place for you. Their Facebook page is primarily used to post the dates and times for weekly karaoke shows at their Morrisville and two Raleigh locations. If you're a karaoke lover, you'll know when to show up; if you're a hater, you'll get ample warning when to stay away.
6. Sammy's Tap & Grill, 2235 Avent Ferry Rd, Raleigh - Sammy's is certainly an NC State tradition, and being so close to campus almost guarantees that the bar will have some event nearly every night of the week. Sammy's posts daily updates on their Facebook page, filling you in on that night's festivities including trivia, poker, and live music.
7. Raleigh Specials Tonight - Okay, so this one isn't actually a bar at all, but if you love Raleigh nightlife it's a must-have. Raleigh Specials Tonight provides a near-daily list of hot happenings at some of the city's hottest nightspots. It's a little unfortunate that most of the posts just take you to the Raleigh Specials Tonight blog for details, but at least you'll get an update in your friend feed when there's a new event to check out.
As Raleigh's nightlife and the use of networks like Facebook continue to grow, I'm sure you'll see more and more of your favorite spots showing up online. If you have a hangout that's "socially active" online, feel free to post it in the comments.

i just found raleighbarhopper.com and it has a decent list of specials.
Kyle, thanks for the heads up! I'll have to look into that and maybe do a writeup on them. Maybe a best-of article for Raleigh bar specials sites?
