For a few months rumors have been circulating about the possible demise of Sadlack's Heroes, a Raleigh landmark for over 30 years, in the wake of the NC State University Bell Tower Redevelopment Project. This week the rumors were confirmed: according to the Raleigh News & Observer's David Bracken, the area now occupied by Sadlack's and its neighboring retail storefronts will be replaced by a 125-room hotel with ground-floor retail and a restaurant.
Sadlack's, which has played host to many renowned Triangle musicians, underwent a renovation just 5 years ago. Its unique blend of campus hangout, outdoor music venue, and sandwich shop has endeared the establishment to students and locals alike. The "Shut Up and Eat It," Sadlack's version of a "chef's choice," guarantees a unique sandiwch experience every time you visit.
Currently, no word has been given whether Sadlack's will reopen in a new location, or simply give way to the Hillsborough Street revitalization and its wave of change. Either way, it's probably a good idea to stop in and check it out before it's gone.
