A bargain hunter's guide to Fashion's Night Out

September 10th not only marks the opening of Spring 2010 Fashion Week, it also is the debut of the highly anticipated worldwide shopping event, Fashion’s Night Out. During the event, which is designed to jumpstart our shopping libidos in this rough economic climate, many of New York City’s retailers will stay open late hosting parties, offering shopping incentives and serving Champagne. Though the event’s founders say that the night isn’t about offering discounts, but rather propping up a retail slump, there are still many deals to be found. Over 700 of the city’s shops are participating, so instead of wading through them all yourself, here’s a list of the best stores to hit up to score sales and swag.

American Apparel: A number of American Apparel stores are participating (check the listing to see exactly which ones) by giving out special grab bags and selling factory direct samples.

Anna Sui for Target: No special deals here but you will get a chance to shop the Gossip Girl themed Anna Sui for Target collection before anyone else at the pop up shop on 54 Crosby St.

Loehmann’s: The discount designer giant’s uptown location is having none other than a huge sample sale to celebrate, featuring up to 85% off Lambertson Truex handbags as well as discounts on other designer goods.

Aveda: Stop by Aveda’s Experience Center on 140 5th Ave. for a free hair consultation and stress-relieving ritual while you sip organic wine and nibble on raw hors d’oeuvres. You can also call 212-645-4797 to schedule a full makeup application with Aveda's makeup director, though spots are limited. After you’re done, Aveda’s complimentary pedicab will deliver your to your next Fashion’s Night Out location.

Madewell: Madewell’s SoHo shop is doling out free martinis and manicures while you shop their selection of laid-back separates. If you’re in the market for a new pair of fall jeans, they’re also offering discounts on denim, as well as free custom tailoring and embroidery for your purchased pair.

DSW: The discount shoe warehouse’s Union Square store is the place to be on Fashion’s Night Out for giveaways. DSW is giving away a pair of shoes every half hour from 6 until 11 p.m. and the grand prize winner will receive a year’s worth of shoes.

Payless: Payless is going all out for the event featuring appearances at three of their Manhattan locations by Project Runway winner Christian Siriano, stylist Patricia Field and designer Lela Rose who will all be debuting their Payless collections. There will also be discounts on shoes and a limited edition tote bag for sale.

Market Publique: Head out to Brooklyn to hit up online auctioneer Market Publique’s pop up store featuring vintage pieces for sale and a DIY tee shirt station where you can make your own creations and model then for the cameras in a photo studio.

Fresh: One of my favorite beauty brands, Fresh, is offering to pump up your Facebook profile with a free makeover from a Fresh beauty consultant and an on site photographer that will upload your new look straight to Facebook. Check the site to see which locations are hosting the event.
