Dallas area Goodwill stores run a different sales schedule than Fort Worth area stores so I will be writing about them next time.
Would you be interested in a $5 pair of jeans or a $25 love seat or a $2 coffee pot? Maybe? What about a $2.50 pair of jeans or a $12.50 love seat or a $1 coffee pot? Got your attention yet? If so, you do not want to miss the 50% off sale taking place at all 14 Fort Worth area Goodwill stores this Wednesday and every third Wednesday of the month.
You don't need me to list all the likely items you'll find at a Goodwill store. You already know that, depending on the location and other factors, you'll find a variety of bargains on clothes, toys, furniture, books, appliances, electronics, tools, and other items you are likely to find at any of the commercial convenience and discount stores about town. What you won't find at the commercial stores is the good works Goodwill does behind the scenes. The good works you can't see displayed on the shelves in the store.
For example, did you know that 87% of Goodwill of Fort Worth earnings pays for programs and services such as job training? It's also true that Goodwill is the largest employer of the disabled internationally. Furthermore, approximately 65% of Goodwill Fort Worth's revenue comes from the sale of donated goods (www.goodwillfortworth.org). So, you should feel even better about saving big time when you buy that sport coat for $10 or that stuffed animal for $5 or that Nora Roberts book for $2.
Some items you may be surprised to see in a Goodwill store, especially if you haven't been to one lately, include items that are not second-hand such as you might find in any convenience store, particularly near the checkout counter. Some stores, such as the Hurst Superstore, even have coffee shops. My local Arlington store on South Cooper has an auction of rare and unique items every Saturday at noon. I was on hand to witness the sale of several issues of local Dallas newspapers bearing headlines announcing the death of John Kennedy and some rare comic books.
The auction items and the standard new retail items are not included in the 50% off sale.
Remember, the date is Wednesday, February 18 and every third Wednesday at all 14 Fort Worth area Goodwill stores.
