Twenty tacky bargain Halloween costumes for New Yorkers

While Halloween costumes can run hundreds of dollars for adults, New Yorkers need not fear. Halloween costume bargains abound this year. They can be found easily at New  York Costumes, Party City and the Spirit Halloween stores in Manhattan. The internet also offers the tacky costume seeker prices from $40 to free. Here are over twenty of the most cringe worthy costume ideas.

1. The "Balloon Boy".

The Balloon Boy a.k.a. Falcon Heene is expected to be one of the most popular costumes this Halloween. The costume is based on the news making "balloon boy" hoax earlier this month. Canadian company Plantraco Microflight has created a kit for $19.99 and has been swamped since it's release. Jason Towes, operations manager for the company told Friday's Globe and Mail, "We're swamped."

2. though 4. The "Cutthroat Pirate" for children, "J.L. Byrd Teen" for teens and "Spam head" man.

New York Costumes takes up an entire Manhattan block, located at 104 4th Avenue. The store carries one of the largest collections in town with thousands of outfits, wigs and accessories. Everything from beautifully sublime to the tacky.  The "Cutthroat Pirate" for children, "J.L. Byrd" teen for teens will make you cringe and "Spam Head" might make you hungry. Wearing a giant can of Spam on one's head costs $29.99.

5.  "The National Enquirer Front Page" woman complete with sensational headline.

Party City has costumes and Halloween party supplies. The store carries dozens of party themes and thousands of unique party items, in addition to Halloween fare. Located at 38 W. 14th Street in Manhattan. Most Halloween stores can not avoid carrying an item someone will find tacky as tacky can be subjective.  Billed as the "National Enquirer Heart Throb" the costume sells for $18.74 online.

6. through 18. This year's news makers.

The clever folks at Newsweek.com came up with several free downloadable masks that can be printed out and added with your own clothes to make the perfect Halloween costume. The site also includes suggestions for outfits, accessories and voice instructions.  The site offers the Kanye West, Taylor Swift duo below, The Balloon Boy, Susan Boyle, Bernie Madiff, Lady Gaga, Bruno, Swine Flu pig with a medical mask, Rod Blagjevich, South American romper Mark Sanford, True Blood vampire character Stephen Moyer and "You Liar!" screamer Joe Wilson.  Kudos to Newsweek for helping make tacky costuming almost cost free.

 

19. and 20.  "Party In My Pants" man and "Good In The Sack" man from Spirit Halloween Store.

'Party In My Pants" man costume is $19.99 and is described at the Spirit Halloween website as, "Party In My Pants costume is a 100% polyester one piece torso cover with velcro closure that looks like unzipped jeans. Reveals men's "briefs" with balloons and festive ribbons; includes four invitation cards."  Spirit Halloween writes, "Good in the Sack" costume begs the response to "prove it". Get ready to put a few more notches in your belt because this costume will have the gals lining up for verification! Fun outfit is comfortable, easy to wear and even easier to slip off in case anyone demands a display of prowess."  The sack goes for $34.99.

Not so sure that the gals will be lining up for these two fellas but you can find both at the Spirit Halloween superstore. Spirit Halloween is located at  20 East 4th Street in Manhattan. The superstore carries costumes, wigs and hundreds of accessories to complete your Halloween costumes. It also carries x-rated adult themed costumes online.
