Ravens' Kindle a sleepwalker? Doubt it

There's a t-shirt that can be purchased online.  It reads: "NARCOLEPTIC...if sleeping, please wake."

Perhaps Sergio Kindle, the Ravens unsigned rookie linebacker who suffered a fractured skull after a recent fall down two flights of stairs, should wear this when he eventually makes his practice debut in lieu of the red non-contact jersey that quarterbacks and Ed Reed usually don during practices and camp.

According to his former college coach, Mack Brown, the former Texas Longhorns standout suffers from narcolepsy.  Brown went on to suggest that the disorder may have been to blame for Kindle's tumble.

This notion isn't new, however.  The question was originally posed after the NFL Draft, in which Ravens Director of Scouting, Eric DeCosta, was asked if Kindle was on medication for ADD and Narcolepsy.

DeCosta shrugged the question off and basically gave way to the idea that if Kindle was on specific medications and there was a cause for concern, than the Ravens wouldn't have selected him with their top pick.

The question here is simple, though.  Is it really plausible that Kindle's fall, which happened after a going-away party in Texas, had anything to do with Narcolepsy? Sure it is.

But it's also a bit of a stretch to blame this kind of situation on a disorder, rather than considering Kindle's history and the strong suggestion that it was alcohol related.

Despite the fact that there were documented concerns of Kindle's ability to stay awake during team meetings--which would support the idea of Narcolepsy--there are also issues of a different nature embedded in Kindle's past.

In 2007 he was pegged with a DUI.  He called that a "mistake."  In 2009 he was involved in a one-car accident.  He blames that mishap on texting and driving, but it raises a question of whether or not alchohol may have been involved, given the fact that he didn't bother to stick around the scene after leveling the broad side of a building.

In Kindle's unfortunate accident, it's not impossible that he fell asleep because of his "alleged" condition.  But in a realistic world, it's quite possible that his condition was impaired.

It wouldn't exactly be the first time.
