The Orioles have signed left-handed reliever Will Ohman to a minor league deal with a Spring Training invite. Let the Death of a Salesman jokes begin .
Ohman was hoping for a major league contract, but he will have to win a spot with the Orioles. Check out Roch Kubatko's MASN article on Ohman here.
At 32, Ohman has the most major league experience of the left-handed relievers checking in at Sarasota next week, but he is coming off an injury-shortened '09. He will have to prove that he's healthy to make the club.
The Orioles enter Spring Training in a position very different from last year's. They have perhaps one rotation spot available, the last two bullpen positions up for grabs, and the last seat on the bench yet to be determined. Otherwise, bringing in Millwood, Atkins, and Tejada has helped to clarify the team's Opening Day roster.
While the club does not seem ready to compete in 2010, they will start the season with Matt Wieters and Nolan Reimold in the lineup and Brian Matusz, Brad Bergesen, and perhaps Chris Tillman in the rotation.
Improvement in 2010 will be based largely on the development of young players, though the front office is hoping offseason veteran pickups, including today's Ohman signing, will help stabilize the long-suffering squad.

That's actually a really good move. Ohman is more than capable, and if I'm not mistaken, he was a hot commodity two years ago around the trade deadline?
Nice work, Trucker.
Yeah, he's had some good years and at 32 should have a few left in the tank. You know those pitchers, though, TWiz. If he's shoulder's gone, they're better off with Castillo. A healthy Ohman is their best LOOGY option, if he is in fact healthy. A nice low-risk pickup, def.
