All ballroom professionals are, at one point or another, confronted with the sticky situation of the bride and groom dance. If the instructor is lucky, the wedding couple will give him/her more than two weeks to teach them to dance for their wedding.  It doesn't hurt if the groom likes being the center of attention, a quality that comes in handy when he suddenly realizes that all eyes are on him during the first dance.  On the couple's first dance lesson, they anxiously await while the instructor listens to their cherished song in order to decide which ballroom dance best fits.  And then the inevitable happens...

It is not a Rumba, nor is it a Waltz, Foxtrot, or Bolero.  In fact, the song that the bride and groom have chosen does not fit well with any of the traditional ballroom dances.  In this situation, the instructor has to quickly choreograph something easy and completely out of his head that will make them look presentable...something that is virtually impossible with new dancers who will be dancing alone and with little or no previous dance training.

Enter the Club Social, the newest dance craze.  Orlando ballroom professional Michael Dean has created an extremely useful and easy-to-learn syllabus of dance steps that will address those hard-to-fit songs and can be learned/taught in just a few lessons...really.   Dean has also taken his popular Club Social syllabus and put it on DVD, so that anyone who wants to learn the syllabus (both professionals and students alike) can learn this dance at home.  Not only will the Club Social make it easy to learn a dance quickly for the bride and groom, but it also will give seasoned ballroom dancers a great dance to fit those slow dances that don't seem to fit into any traditional ballroom dance category.  Additionally, it is adaptable to all types of music, including, but not limited to, Country Western, Pop, Oldies, etc.  It is the perfect dance for everyone and for every occasion where music and dancing is involved.  Instead of swaying back and forth like a monotonous clock pendulum, try the Club Social and watch how creative your impromptu dancing can actually become.

Michael Dean is an independent ballroom instructor and teaches private and semi-private lessons in Orlando.
