If you have a sizeable lot of land and would like to put it to good use, you might want to include a sport court into your landscape. A well-built court will offer years of low-maintenance fun for children and adults while creating entertainment for family, friends and neighbors. You can also help increase the value of your property with a sport court while keeping everyone healthy and active.
First decide if there is a special kind of court you want. Are you or members of your family avid about tennis? Basketball? Another sport? Or would it make more sense to build a multi-use court? You will want to consider the dimensions and the materials to use for your sport court and the use will help define these.
Locate your court where a large, flat area will fit in easily and flow with the rest of your landscape design. This is one element of a landscape that doesn’t have to be positioned close to the house for convenience. Factor in drainage and plan on paths or other convenient access that can also become a decorative part of your landscape.
Unless you are an experienced contractor, you’ll likely benefit from having your sport court professionally installed. There are companies that specialize in building these courts. Having it done right at the start will probably save you money in the long run by reducing maintenance and repair costs later.
If you plan to do it yourself, make sure you build a proper foundation. In some parts of the country you can use fine cut lawns for your court, but most other areas will prefer rubber, concrete, synthetic lawn or other foot surfaces for flooring. There are even modular surfaces you can install. Fencing will keep balls and people properly contained and intrusions out. Do your research or call in a consultant for building your own sport court.
Whether you just want to enjoy your property more, entertain the kids, get more exercise, have a great excuse for inviting over guests or want to add to the value of your property, building a sport court into your landscape can offer many benefits to your landscape.
