Sigg recently announced a redesign to their popular water bottles. The new bottles will have an EcoCare liner that contains no BPA or Phthalates.
This came as quite a shock to Sigg fans who were confident that the bottles never contained BPA. While the original bottles claim to be 100% non-leaching they do have BPA in their liner.
This news has left many back to school shoppers in need of a new water bottle. Here are three great options that are sure to meet your needs.
Klean Kanteen is a basic bottle that is 18/8 stainless steel. You can choose from a sport cap, flat cap, loop cap, sippy top and they've recently introduced wide mouth bottles as well. They come in a variety of colors or basic stainless steel and they retail for $15-$17 for a 12 oz bottle. Colors cost $2 more. Klean Kanteen can be purchased at the Rugged Bear or L.L Bean in Lebanon, NH or at Burrows Specialized Sports in Brattleboro, Vermont.
Crocodile Creek came out with a 13 oz water bottle that is made from food grade stainless steel and features some fabulous designs that any child will love. These bottles all come with a sport top but they also feature a dust cap which keeps the mouth piece covered when it's in a backpack or lunch box. These bottles retail for $9.99 and can be found at Sprout Natural Parenting in Brattleboro Vermont.
Nalgene has a plastic bottle called the Grip-n-Gulp which is BPA free. This 12 oz bottle has a loop top that can be attached to a backpack and comes in four bright colors. Nalgene is the only bottle manufactured in the USA. This bottle retails for $9.25 and can be found in most sporting goods stores and Target.
If you're interested in trying the new Sigg bottle they come in really fun designs and their kids bottles feature dust caps. The 10 oz bottle retails for $17.99 and the 13 oz bottle for $19.99. Sigg bottles are made in Switzerland.
If you already own a Sigg bottle with the BPA liner and want to try their new EcoCare liner they have launched an exchange program. This program is going on through October 31, 2009.

I have been scouring around to find a safe and cute kids bottle for our little ones! Thanks for pointing out some options. With the start of school, I knew there were a few natural products and safe alternatives I really wanted to get...I got our Topricinkids natural pain cream and now...I will be on a mission to get one of these! :D
Thanks for showing some nice options. I might also add Pura Stainless to the list. After much research and discarding my aluminum bottles, I came the conclusion that Pura makes the best bottles. Not only are they made from food service stainless steel but they alos have stainless lids (in contrast to the plastic lids used on the bottles above). I never really understood the mentality of using a non-plastic bottle but still drinking through a plastic lid.
Pura is also launching a new all stainless and toddler line and they have partnered with some leading companies. In addition, I was really sold when I learned of their proactive approach to the environment and using responsible manufacturing techniques.
Check out their new sippy cups at:

In any event, I was so happy with Pura I joined their PurAdvocate program which allows me to give my friends and family 20% off all purchases on their site:

I didnt want to worry about aluminum or plastic. What if they lie again ? How do we know for sure ? The tests that they base these studies on are flawed & only test at per billion. Yet all the the top scientists are testing per Trillion & these tests are coming up positive. Come on people wake up. The FDA is relying on the flawed tests as well , because their pockets are being stuffed with cash. We must lookout for ourselves & be mindful that when money is at stake, people bend the rules I Got a new 18/8 food-grade stainless steel 100% BPA-free hydration bottle from Koozio.
