A military T-2C jet made an emergency landing Wednesday night at Leesburg Executive Airport after the planes glass canopy broke apart in mid-flight.
Unconfirmed reports say the canopy broke up between 23,000 and 27,000 feet.
The plane, tail number 159713, is part of the Navy’s Air Test and Evaluation Squadron-20 (VX-20) based at Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland. The plane also displays a P-8A Poseidon Integrated Test Team logo. The P-8A Poseidon is a new aircraft being developed to replace the Navy's aging fleet of P-3 Orion aircraft. The T-2C jet supports the Poseidon test team.
A military C-130 aircraft was scheduled to land at Leesburg on Friday at 9:45 a.m. EST. The C-130 is transporting a maintenance crew to work on the damaged T-2C jet.
