Based on current forecasts for Hurricane Earl and Tropical Storm Fiona by the National Hurricane Center, major airlines are offering passengers booked to affected airports the option to change their reservation without penalty.
AirTran Airways, Delta Airlines and Continental Airlines announced Wednesday they would provide passengers an option to change their travel plans free of charge.
Delta's weather advisory encourages customers to consider postponing or re-routing their travel to avoid possible inconvenience from expected East Coast flight delays.
“Passengers may adjust their travel plans to an alternate date starting one day prior to their original travel day through three days after their original travel date,” AirTran said in a company press release.
Continental Airlines said storm conditions are expected to make air travel difficult on the U.S. East Coast, forcing some delays and cancellations of flights at airports in the region, including at its New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport.
All airlines will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments to their flight schedules as necessary.
