Saleen issues teasers of the 2010 Mustang S281

When Steve Saleen parted from Saleen Motorsports, it was unknown what would come of the near legendary line of high performance Saleen Mustangs.  Mr. Saleen departed to start the new SMS Supercars, and the original company has retained the Saleen name (after a couple lawsuits) and has now become Saleen Performance Vehicles.

A few months ago, the new Saleen Performance Vehicles released their first take on the refreshed 2010 Mustang, minus Steve Saleen’s influence, in the form of the Mustang 435S.  The changes to the exterior of the Saleen 435S were minimal, but along with suspension upgrades, the new Saleen received engine improvements to the tune of 435 horsepower.  This monster Mustang is an excellent first chapter to the Steve-less Saleen Performance, but we all knew that more was to come.

Shortly after debuting the Mustang 435S, Saleen Performance Vehicles announced that their Mustang S281 would return, and that the 2009 SEMA Show would be the host of the grand unveiling.  There has been very little information issued on the new S281, but last week Saleen released a few images of the Mustang ahead of the SEMA show.

The images leave little to the imagination, with a great look at the elongated rear fascia housing the four exhaust tips and the clean, molded rear spoiler area.  We can see that the rear quarter windows receive the “scoop look”, and a set of large bright silver wheels with what looks to be a basic 10 or 12 spoke design with hold the high performance tires expected to come standard on the new S281.

Along the front end, the grille receives a similar blackout treatment as the rear panel, using the Mustang GT style hood, extending out over the grille.  The hood looks to retain a similar overall shape as the Mustang GT, but it looks like the S281 will have a large scoop in the middle of the hood.  Also, from the profile shots of the front end, the S281 appears to have a bolder, more prominent front fascia.

Today, we are exactly three weeks away from the 2009 SEMA Show, and in two weeks and 3 hours we will have a full look at the 2010 Saleen Performance Vehicles S281 Mustang.

Stay tuned to the Detroit Autos Examiner for complete 2009 SEMA Show coverage, as well as upcoming reviews of the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO and the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS!

Good to hear that the Mustangs will be getting some well deserved power in a variety of different options.
