Today, I offer up to you a late edition of the June 2010 Mustang of the Month. Each month, along with the folks from the Mustang Owners Club of South Eastern Michigan (MOCSEM), I feature the hottest Mustang’s from the Detroit area and this month we take a look at a late model Mustang with a special story.
Many modified Mustangs have a story but this 2006 Mustang GT Convertible owned by April and Craig Zygmunt is a dedication to their daughter, Collette, who passed away at just 3 years old. The car bears the little girl’s likeness on the custom radiator support with characters from her favorite story, Charlotte’s Web, and her name on the license plate – along with a host of appearance and performance modifications to make this one hot 2006 droptop Mustang.
Craig had this to say about their customized 2006 Mustang GT Convertible:
April bought the Mustang in 2007 and began modifying it almost right away, making the car a tribute to her daughter, Collette, who passed away at the age of 3 in 2005. The most unique feature is the custom airbrushed radiator cover which features Collette and characters from her favorite story, Charlotte’s Web.
April really caught the Mustang bug when she began attending shows, won her first trophy, and joined the Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan (MOCSEM). At first the mods were mostly for show: chin spoiler, billet grille, custom seat covers, wheels, GT500 rear bumper and spoiler, and a bunch of engine dress-up items. The mod bug got a lot worse for us when we decided to move from show to go.
We added a ROUSH supercharger, JBA shorty headers, ROUSH one-piece driveshaft, Ford Racing 3.73 gears, and suspension pieces. Way too much to list here. The dyno shows the car putting 390 hp to the rear wheels, which is respectable, but there’s more power in there so we’re planning more changes in the future.
We attend shows and cruises just about every weekend throughout the Summer and have even taken the car to the drag strip a few times. We have 3 children, Abigail, Olivia and Konner, and they go to most events with us and even help detail the car. This car is so much fun to drive and gets a great reaction from people wherever we go. Mustang people are awesome.
