While I don’t expect Bill Ford to dance around singing “a major award – a major award”, the folks at the top of the Ford Motor Company food chain should be proud of their latest accomplishment – winning the “Business Turnaround of the Year” at the 2010 American Business Awards in New York.
Ford has spent the last 18 months digging out of one of the worst hits to the auto industry since the oil crisis and even though Ford’s stock plummeted like everyone else’s, FMC bounced back in a big way. Coming out of the abysmal year that saw the demise of several American brands, Ford continues to offer exciting new vehicles both here in the domestic market and around the world; helping to increase their market share worldwide.
The 2010 American Business Awards are decided on by a panel of over 200 business executives from around the country and the judges evaluate more than 2,700 companies for the awards. Few industries were hit as hard as the auto industry in 2009 and the fact that Ford was not only able to weather the storm (even with the recent death of the Mercury brand), but they used the rough year as a stepping stone to roll out a huge spread of new drivetrains in a variety of new and improved vehicles.
We are about 10 days from the next batch of monthly sales figures but with the Fiesta about to arrive and the 2011 Mustangs reaching consumers around the country, things are likely to continue to improve for the Blue Oval crew.
