Saab is asking Michigan for a tax incentive to build their new North American headquarters in the Royal Oak area of Detroit. Officials for Saab, which was recently sold by General Motors to Swedish supercar maker Koenigsegg, have announced that they wish to remain in the Detroit area, since a number of their employees are already comfortable in the area.
Saab will be moving out of their current North American headquarters, located in the Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit. They're going to have to vacate by January 2010 when the sale from GM is complete.
If the state and city are unwilling to provide the needed incentives, Saab executives are also looking at locations in Connecticut.
