Kia and Hyundai are moving up the automotive ranks and with cars designs like the Soul and Genesis; it’s easy to see why. General Motors is now going to try to get a piece of that Korean design with a design studio in Seoul. The Seoul Advanced Design Studio opened in Gangnam, South Korea’s trendy neighborhood.
The studio will specialize in exterior and interior styling of the global mini and small car design, with around 30 workers.
The studio is already reasonable for the Cruze, Spark and upcoming Aveo.
“Our car designers get inspiration from life and Gangnam is a place where people worship design, style and fashion,” said Ed Welburn, GM Vice President of Global Design, in a statement released to the media. “Our Korean designers will sample perfection every day surrounded by some of the top brands and fashion houses in the world and this ideal location will nurture their creative souls.”
Gangnam is world-renowned for its design atmosphere and recently took over the title of World Design Capital from Turin, Italy.
