Kyle’s Corner (FYI) Can Escort and Cloud stop Cordon?

I recently did an article that featured the upcoming vehicle Cloud technology.  What is Cloud?  Well, basically from what I understand, it will involve vehicles being connected to the Internet combined with access to massive amounts of stored data.  It will likely change driving forever!

Will Cloud be useful, yes indeed!  However, what about Cordon?

An Ontario, Canada company called Peak Gain Systems has reportedly joined with a company called Simicon from St. Petersburg, Russia to produce Cordon.

And what can Cordon do?  Of the monitoring devise, Motor Trend states, “As the name sort of hints, this photoradar unit casts a cordon of enforcement across a four-lane highway, recording the speed, position, time of day, and the license number of every car that passes, providing they’re not so close together as to obscure the plates.”

The small Cordon box can be positioned from 16 to 26 feet above the roadside.  It will use inferred to enable it to work at night.  Furthermore, it will save data on a SD card and to Cloud or terrestrial databases such as Wi-Fi, 3G, or WiMax.

Most drivers would likely agree that the technology would be beneficial in identifying stolen vehicles, criminals, or in ticketing drivers who excessively exceed the speed limit.

On the other hand, however, with tight local budgets, the inexpensive technology is expected to pay big revenue dividends.   If a driver commits a driving offense, a traffic citation could be e-mailed to the driver before he or she pulls in the driveway!

Although Cloud will likely be part of the Cordon system, it could also be part of radar protection.

Escort, Inc. is leveraging Cloud to provide a global protection network to its million-plus customer base.

Escort would gather information from its subscribers who are driving to identify speed traps and it would likely use Cloud to automatically slow the vehicle down (thus avoiding a ticket) until Cordon stops monitoring.

Cordon and Escort could be thought of as an ultra modern-day technological battle to keep driving enjoyable (keep in mind that many Russians still do not own vehicles and they might well be jealous of others who do).

Rather than excessively ‘policing’ the West to slow us up, Russian could work on raising the living standard of its citizens who want to buy a car and drive (free) like Americans.

Will Escort and Cloud be able to defeat the Russian Cordon?  We all know who won the Cold War, right!
