The cars of Disney World: family vacation photos

In the Disney Lights, Motors, Action stunt show, specially prepared Opels perfom another wild car chase

Last month we took a family vacation to Walt Disney World in Orlando.  It was a pretty big deal to us, and there was more than enough to keep a family of three busy for the entire week.

In the spirit of this column, I thought I’d post pictures of some of the cars and car-related things around the park.  Disney World has something for everybody, so the car stuff is sort of scattered around, but it is there if you’re looking for it.

The biggest two car attractions are the General Motors Test Track ride in Epcot, and the Lights, Motors, Action stunt show in Hollywood Studios.  The Test Track simulates what it might be like to be a crash test dummy, subjecting you to all sorts of wild terrain, temperature changes, and a zippy 60-mph blast to the finish.  Lights, Motors, Action is a live stunt show, in which the premise is that you are watching the stunt team coordinate the car stunts for a movie.  Both of these things are not only appealing to car lovers, but like most of the attractions at Disney, fun for the whole family.

Pixar’s Cars movie is also a Disney production, so you can “meet” Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater in the Hollywood Studios theme park.  Actually, the whole park is sort of decorated as a 1940s movie studio, so there is a smattering of neat old cars parked throughout the park.

I wouldn’t say that Disney World is a car lover’s paradise or anything, but it was fun, and there are enough car things around there that even the biggest motor head shouldn’t get bored.
