Is there an automotive downturn? Now, apparently not as bad for the lux brand Mercedes. Word on the street is that there are 50,000-plus orders thus far for the newly redesigned company savior, the 2010 Mercedes E-Class.
The E-Class sedan which hypnotized me at this year’s 2009 New York International Auto Show is in a word—SLEEK! The new aerodynamic look has instant appeal. According to the automaker, there are improvements in engine performance, handling and fuel economy. There are also loads of tekkie features in the car like Attention Assist which detects driver drowsiness, the Adaptive Main Beam Assist adjusts headlight angles for the best illumination without blinding other drivers, and the optional Speed limit Assist which recognizes speed limit signs then displays them in the speedometer. Shut up!!!

The new E-Class will be offered in a coupe, sedan, convertible and wagon variants, along with the badass E63 AMG just introduced in New York. Der neue E-Class will also be available with a 211 hp, 3.0-liter Bluetec diesel. The last E-class sold over a mil and although it’s pretty early in the game, it looks like this new number may surpass that mark.
