Finding autism-friendly resources can be tricky
One of the most frustrating tasks parents of autistic children face is finding the right resources and support systems. A new website is now available to help with the endless search for autism-friendly doctors, dentists, hair-cut places, restaurants and other resources across the state of Pennsylvania.
Aut2know.org provides easy search interface
Developed along the lines of sites like CitySearch or the reviews available when using GoogleMaps or Yahoo Local, the Aut2.know.org website, provides the ability to search by resource type, keyword and zip code with a radius option. One key element of the site is contributions from users, including the ability to review and rate submitted resources.
Readers are encouraged to not only look things up to but to contribute known resources to help build up the pool of information on the site, after all, who knows better than the parents out there every day looking for options?
Currently the site's results are a little bit thin based on entering several sets of search criteria and different zip codes, to balance this, the site offers a contact form and contact information to reach out to the site's maintainers for additional assistance if users can't find what they're looking for.
The idea behind the site seems sound, providing an additional means for members of a community to connect and share information to help support autistic kids. With more contributions and active participation from local reviewers, this site could grow to be a very valuable one-stop-shop for those hard-to-find, autism-friendly businesses and support resources.
