Since the recent debut of Autism Speaks's new video, "I Am Autism", Autism Speaks has had what neurodiversity blogger Socrates refers to as a "PR Meltdown". First, a parody video called "I Am Autism Speaks" took the top results spot for Google and Youtube searches of "I Am Autism", and the video was then buried under hypercritical responses from the autistic and autism community. The official Autism Speaks website has been relegated to a lower spot in Google's search results, further humiliating the organization for its inappropriate video. In fact, as of 22:30 UTC on Friday, September 25th, The New Republic, Socrates's blog, was the number one Google search result for the search term "Autism Speaks". The autistic community has struck back, and they've hit good and hard. Even Autism Speaks UK denounced the video, and attempted to distance themselves from their American counterpart. At this rate, it becomes clear that Autism Speaks did not, does not, and will not speak for autistic people or their families.

They SO went too far this time.
I hope parents and friends stop getting $ for this organization and start raising money for their kids' schools. THAT will directly help Autism education, awareness, and advocacy and acceptance. No more money to Autism Speaks. Never again.
