Beehive book awards children's literature association of Utah sponsors books for charity event
This August the Beehive book awards children's literature association of Utah is hoping to raise enough money to purchase 6,000 books for 6,000 children in local Utah schools. In an effort to achieve this goal, the association is sponsoring the Rock Canyon writing for charity event. This is the second year that this event has been sponsored here in Utah, in the hopes of not only improving literacy among Utah's children, but also to raise community awareness about the need to get involved in the arts community in local venues.
Local Utah authors to help sponsor event and support the writing for charity cause
This year there will be appearances by local authors who will be available not only for book signings and publicity photos, but they will also be participating in several activities to be hosted throughout the day. It is anticipated that there will be genre specific question and answer groups, a critique session with local authors -- you will be able to have your own works reviewed by published authors, and many other events throughout the day.
There will also be an evening extravaganza where fans will be able to meet authors such as Brandon Mull, James Dashner, and Bree Despan. There will also be many other local authors, as well as representatives from the literary community to help encourage networking within the writing Utah community. It is hoped that participating Utah authors will encourage local children in the field of writing. This event is also designed to help children realize that authors are people, and that just as they have been able to achieve much in the field of writing -- so can others.
Writing for charity extravaganza
This event is scheduled to be held on August 21st at the Waterford School of Performing Arts building in Sandy. There are many different registration options, and it is hoped that the public will attend, in an effort to show interest in increasing literacy in Utah. Books will be purchased from remainder and overstocked book supplies, as well as through arrangements with publishers, in order to obtain the books at cost. In this way it is anticipated that all the money raised will be able to go directly to the supply of the books, and not be caught up on other business operating functions.
