Writing contest: come one come all

Killer Nashville's The Claymore Dagger Award
                                                    c/o Killer Nashville

Contests are a great opportunity to get your work in front of an agent, editor or publishing house. Here is a local one going on right now:

Killer Nashville, which I spotlighted a few articles ago, is presenting a great opportunity for new and experienced authors. The Claymore Daggar award is “for the best unpublished manuscript
by an attendee or non-attendee of Killer Nashville.” It’s a great opportunity even if you can’t make the convention this year (although, I would advise anyone who wants to learn more about their craft, study crime scenes, or meet amazing authors to buy their tickets today).

Why is Killer Nashville doing this? Because Killer Nashville wants to help you, the up-and-coming writers, succeed. The award goes to the most outstanding manuscript submitted that has yet to be published. As they tell it, “We want to reward effort and encourage talent regardless of the level of past success.”

What happens if you win? The winner is eligible for a publishing contract through Avalon Books, their sponsoring publisher, who have agreed to consider publishing the finished manuscript.  This means they are opening the door for you; you just have to follow your dream through it.

If you are interested in entering to win The Claymore Daggar Award, click here. Or visit Killer Nashville’s website at: http://www.killernashville.com/Content2009/awardsclaymore2009.htm.

And stay tuned for my series of interviews with authors that are attending, speaking and book signing at Killer Nashville 2009, starting with Elizabeth Terrell.
