Local Denver authors, Betsy Dornbusch, David E. Hughes, and Lesley L. Smith, are proud to announce that Electric Spec, their speculative fiction ezine, will be published quarterly in 2010. A speculative fiction ezine is an electronic magazine that publishes science fiction, fantasy, and horror/macabre stories and articles on the internet.

Smith said, “We are very proud of the stories we've published and the authors we've promoted. For example, back in 2007 we published a story Me and the Devil Blues by Stuart Neville. Stuart told us our publication of his story really encouraged him; his excellent first novel, The Ghosts of Belfast, came out in 2009. As another example, in our October 31, 2009 issue we published a story, Larger than Life, by award-winning author Nina Kiriki Hoffman.”

Smith adds, “We are especially excited about our upcoming February 28, 2010 issue, because we have five excellent short stories, a special interview with literary agent Ethan Ellenberg, and a couple other surprises.”

Electric Spec is free for readers, but the publishers pay their authors and artists.

Smith explains, “We prefer science fiction, fantasy, and the macabre, but we're willing to push the limits of traditional forms of these genres. With art submissions we prefer energetic pieces that narrow the boundary between realism and fantastical, both in genre and style.”

Smith’s advice for new authors is, “Keep writing and submitting!”

Dornbusch, Hughes, and Smith have been publishing their Electric Spec ezine since January 2006.
