How to do a Podcamp - Western MA Podcamp rocked

After missing so many of the Podcamps I wanted to attend over the last few years, I was finally able to get myself to the one Saturday, March 28, 09 in Holyoke MA.  It was billed as Podcamp Western MA, you can find it on Twitter with the hashtag #pcwm

Wow! I had a great time, learned much and hope to get involved some way, in organizing a Central MA podcamp.

While I can't possibly relate everything I learned, here are my key take-a-ways.

There were sessions that covered Google Analytics, Social Marketing, Blogging, Podcasting and Video Blogging and others.

The agenda ran from 9am to 5pm, sessions overlapped, and I had a hard time deciding which ones to attend.

As you'd imagine, these are just as much about the great contacts you'll make as the information you'll acquire. I'm very excited about following up from some of the business cards I've collected of some very smart people.

Everyone I talked to had something great to offer, and I was amazed at the diversity of backrounds. There were newspaper journalists, two gents who are involved with building a  Buddhist website, people in the medical field, a science fiction convention podcaster, those involved in indie music, eBooks, real estate, dancing, video bloggers and more.

Twitter of course, was much talked about, and I took the lazy way of getting everyone's Twitter IDs, which was to get a picture of the Twitter roster.

My best advice for those interested in this type of event is to follow these folks on Twitter. Find out what you missed if you weren't able to attend, if you did attend find out what's next from the movers and shakers you've networked with.

One of the best things I found about the camp, was that although there were designated speakers for each theme, I was able to learn much from the other participants because everyone was encouraged to share. The venue was very Democratic and had a ton of value due to that.

 As you'd imagine these are just as much about the great
 contacts you'll make as what you can learn.

  admission fee of $20 included morning coffee, muffins and a
  full lunch buffet!
