The FDA issued a warning letter to Nestle on Tuesday for multiple instances of misleading customers and "misbranding" their Juicy Juice line of juices.

The FDA reprimanded Nestle for many violations, including:

  • Misleading consumers with their "100% Juice Orange-Tangerine juice" and "100% Juice Grape juice" because they imply that the juices are predominantly made of these juices, when orange, tangerine and grape are not the main ingredients.
  • Making unauthorized nutrient claims about their "Juicy Juice Brain Development Fruit Juice" helping brain development in children.
  • Making unauthorized claims about their juices being "naturally low in sugar."

Other violations were listed as well and the FDA told Nestle that the list did not include all of their violations.  The FDA gave Nestle 15 days to reply in writing with what they will do to correct these violations and prevent them in the future.

Click here to read the Fooducate Blog's review of these products, where they say, "Nutritionally, these and other fruit drinks are closer to Coca Cola than to an apple or a bunch of grapes. This product is basically watered down apple juice, made from concentrate, with a few more additives and fish oil."

The Nestle corporation has been the target of boycotts by breastfeeding advocates for decades because of their violations of WHO regulations regarding marketing formula to new mothers around the world and making false claims about the nutritional benefits of their formulas.

This, combined with the awful formula marketing campaign Nestle wages in third world countries without access to clean water--well, there's a good reason for the Nestle Ban, now isn't there? :(
