The first tropical storm of the season for the Americas came off of the Pacific Ocean and hit southern Mexico, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. The storm came onshore Sunday with 45 mph (75 kmp) winds, heavy rain and mudslides.

Local reports in Guatemala stated that 112,000 people have been evacuated, and 82 people were reported dead. Another 53 were still missing.
In Honduras, another 8 people died as a result of heavy rain from Agatha.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami warned that remnants of the storm were expected to deliver 10 to 20 inches (25 to 50 centimeters) of rain over southeastern Mexico, Guatemala and parts El Salvador.

NOAA estimates a 70% probability for each of the following ranges of activity this season:
- 14-23 Named Storms,
- 8-14 Hurricanes
- 3-7 Major Hurricanes
- An ACE range of 155%-270% of the median.
The seasonal activity is expected to fall within these ranges in 7 out of 10 seasons with similar climate conditions and uncertainties to those expected this year. They do not represent the total possible ranges of activity seen in past similar years.
