Rep. Paul Broun of GA's 10th district
On Tuesday morning, Athens area Rep. Paul Broun hosted a town hall meeting in Watkinsville. The Athens Banner-Herald says there were about 400 people in attendance and mostly liberals in the crowd, but that there was little discourse and the tone remained civil.
For those not familiar with Rep. Broun, he has been a sore spot for Athens-area liberals since he took office in 2007. Many remember his proposal to make 2010 the “Year of the Bible,” his comparison last year of Obama to Hitler, and his insistance that global warming is a hoax.
But what could be the most talked about event at the town hall meeting is something that happened after Broun spoke, as he was talking with constituents who gathered around after the meeting. Ryan Lewis of Athens asked the Congressman, who is a doctor, directly what he was planning to do to make medical care affordable, telling him of his medical problems and how even with health insurance his provider won’t cover most of it. Broun’s response? He tells Lewis, “if you have a suggestion, send it to me” and walks away.

I'm really glad you posted this because I actually saw this on Twitter this morning. Can't believe he didn't even try to answer.
Ahh I was there, Broun was so out of his depth. He obviously thought it was going to be 99% conservatives and barely anyone there since it was early morning on a Tuesday in Watkinsville. Notice he never does anything at UGA! I've seen Broun speak before at another town hall and he just said the same things - it's all written out, he knows nothing. He can stick to writing meaningless bills proposing "Year of _____".
Sadly it was even worse than that. He didn't say "if you have a question...", he said "if you have a suggestion..." - seriously? What the *&^% am I paying you for?
Get your head in the game Broun! This is the big leagues, this can't honestly be your A Game can it? If today was the best you can do then we won't have this problem much longer.
Thanks for letting me know, Ryan - fixed!
We vote these guys in to work for the best interest of the people in the State of Georgia. He's paid a great salary and benefits by the taxpayers. He receives his contributions from major corporations and looks out after their profits (and his) look him up on OpenSecrets.org.
Since this Rep. does not realize that he was voted in by the people to look out after their best interest, maybe its time to go.
Believe about 90% of our elected officials need to go work for the corporations and special interest groups they "work for".
Let's clean house and bring in politicians who truly want to "serve" the people who elect them into office.
Ryan, so sorry you had problems. Hang in there. It is very disheartening when you realize your politician truly does not care about you and I. They are getting wealthy with their corporate buddies at our expense.
If we have to endure one more year without meaningful Health Care
cost reform, then health benefits should stop for politicians.
So why is it govt's, or should I say the taxpayer's burden to cover Ryan's health costs?
WWJD? Yeah, pretty sure he'd want us to take care of our neighbors.
Perhaps dying is the solution. Accept your faye unless you can afford to do something about it, and I will too.
no no no, none of you understand. You're debating as though we WANT to fix healthcare. we don't care that you're not well. Its not my problem if you dont have money to pay for healthcare. its just the luck of the draw. Survival of the fittest as Jesus would say. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps like a good American, and maybe one day you can afford to pay ridiculous amounts of salary to an organisation that makes a higher profit when they deny you cover.
Survival of the fittest as Jesus would say? What Bible are you reading from, or are you a member of "The Family" RTHINK...
This is not about "the luck of the draw", Health Care Reform is about what is morally right and wrong. Many people have been "wronged" by the Health Care Industry the past several years and it has nothing to do with "pull yourself up by the bootstrap and work hard". They have worked hard and paid for Health Care, but after seeing premiums increase 37% per year the past decade they can not afford it, or if they can afford $5,000 annual prem. for individual, they can not afford $5,000 deductible plus co-pays per year. If they get sick through no fault of they own then they get dropped by there insurer.
I pray RTHINK you never get sick or lose your health insurance, if you do, then you will realize the problems millions in the US face.
We need to take the politicial & corporate finanicial interest out of health care and come up with real solutions.
Slanted reporting......surely not. How about the last sentence is.
Rep. Brou responded to a concerned citizen bye leaving his door open to suggestions. Rep Brou works for you and will listen.
Of course this is biased reporting, Bill - I'm the liberal examiner. There are nonpartisan examiners here if that's more your taste.
