In a recent press release David Bereit, national director of 40 Days for Life, said, “With abortion advocates trying to exploit the current health care reform debate to mandate taxpayer funding of abortion. We are incredibly encouraged to see record numbers of people in cities across America willing to take a stand by participating in 40 Days for Life to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves and seek God's protection for innocent children in the womb -- and mothers -- at risk of abortion. “ Does this mean God will put his abortion practice on hold for 40 days?
According to FertilityAuthority.com, “Approximately 20 percent or 1 in 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage, and often a cause is never found.” That’s one too many. God doesn’t ask parents if they want to keep their baby or not, he just does it. How does that work? At least when a couple or mother decides to have an abortion they have a reason for it, and it is their choice.
If you ask someone who deeply believes in God their answer will be, “God did it for a reason.” Seems like the only good thing that comes out of miscarriage is money made by doctors and counselors - capitalism at work!
Others might say, “They didn’t pray enough.” Oh yes, like that’s going to help a lot. Anyways, let’s hope He got the memo about 40 Days for Life campaign; otherwise, that one happy mother won’t be so happy after God will be done with her.
Life is sacred, and should be cherished no matter what. However, God should be the last reason why someone shouldn’t have an abortion. It’s like trying to use fire to treat burn wounds – let’s see you do that! In the end it comes down to choice. If you want to use God as the reason for stopping abortion, let’s be honest here, He did give us free will and mind to go along with it. Our mind tells us that this choice should be left to her, not Him or you, for that matter.
On the other hand, maybe there is no God, which would make life so much easier and more enjoyable. No really, it’s a bit exhausting hearing God this and God that. Can’t you take credit for once?

As a mother who has had two miscarriages I am appauled by this article!!! Abortion is the taking of life because you are too selfish to have the baby! God allows all things to happen because we live in a sin stricken world and the devil is able to get away with things. God does not kill the baby inside the womb. He allows it to pass on just as He allows cancer and murder and every other sinful thing! We choose to sin and God did not make us to be robots! So before you say that God aborts babys think again! God did not want my babies to die! He allowed it to happen and I have to use the experience to help others and I need to learn how to trust Him!
I'm sorry to hear about your miscarriages, but how can you trust someone or something that did it to you twice?
Would you trust a friend who stabbed you twice?
I would strongly suggest that you learn a little bit more about Christianity (try reading the New Testament) before you write any more about it. Your callousness towards those of us who have buried children is astounding.
I should add -
You missed Melissa's point entirely. God does not cause one in five pregnancies to fail. God does not cause evil.
Kate,
Frankly, I don't believe in God anyways. So he can't cause anything. In this article I took slightly different stance of devil's advocate and looked at it as if He did exist. If you want to give Him credit for pregnancy, you have to give Him credit for miscarriage. You can't say He did one and not the other.
I read Bible, don't have much interest rereading fiction. I prefer non-fiction books.
It's a fallen world dear; Pollution, death, the fragility of nature...Sigh. So many want heaven now. Christ said we must become like little children in our faith, not childish.
Heaven happens later, as long as we don't sell out and lose hope in Him who offers the gift of eternal life. That gift is only gained thru His death and sacrifice for us.
Maureen,
I'm sorry, but I have a problem with eternal life. People look forward to the afterlife way too much. They miss out on the good things this life has to offer. They don't see how unique it is.
Why should this life be a bus stop where you spend time waiting to get to another destination that should be better? You don't even know that there is something at the end of the road.
I prefer to enjoy this life to the fullest, cherish every moment and then leave. I don't want eternity; it makes life worthless.
Every time you get a glimpse of love you esperience a bit of heaven Victor.
Saint Augustine said his soul had a hole in it that could only be filled by God. In my experience, the people who are truly joyful are the ones of deep faith. The pro-life people who take the jeers and disrespect to try to save the littlest among us are the most wonderful people in this world. They are the most like Christ.
I wish you the best.
Melissa you just contradicted yourself. By saying he allowed something to happen you imply he had a choice. If he doesn't want a fetus (lets use proper terms here people) to die then he would take action. If he is able to take action and chooses not to then he is indifferent. If he takes action and kills the child then he is malicious.
Yes there is crime, pollution, and horrible things in this world. There is also a lot of great things. I find utter joy in my education which I give full credit to myself, my teachers, my family, and my peers. God did not help me get to where I am in life and I will not give up my hard work to him.
Using simple phrases like every time you experience love you experience a bit of heaven is at sappy and cheesy at best. In my experience the ones who are deep with faith are also hate mongers who are pro-homophobia, pro-slavery, pro-bigotry. These people will kill doctors and scientists, they blow up buildings, they declare war based on a book made when we still thought the earth was flat. These are not people to put on a stand, these are people to outcast from society for their barbaric ways.
Take a look at history more atrocities have been done in the name of god than anything else. If there is a god he must be ashamed of his creation, i know i would be. Any creature that can be so hypocritical in its ways and perform such evil acts on its own members does not deserve a paradise. If you belong to religion you show support for the acts it has committed. You own your past.
Also have any of you theists read any of Viktor's other posts? You comment about how appauling and callous he is. Read some of his other posts about freedom in the middle east or his interviews. All you read is one post by a person and then judge him, very Christian of you.
Thanks Robert.
For those that say that each person has a choice.... they are right. You have a choice BEFORE the act, not after the act. Once a person is pregnant, there is another person involved....no matter how small. If a woman is not ready to be a parent, then have the baby up for adoption, but do not kill the child. No matter how much we want to cover it up, abortion is genocide. Norma McCovey (Roe from Roe v. Wade) actually admitted that this law was based on a lie (saying that she was raped when she was not) and she is involved in "Silent no More Campaign" with thousand of women that testify on the emotional trauma that abortion creates to women. As a voice on behalf of the unborn, abortion is murder.....period.
Nancy,
Good comment. You should tell God that, I don't think He knows. He's alone responsible for thousands of deaths of the unborn.
