Two atheist billboards will be going up in north Texas on Monday. One will be erected in Dallas on I-35 near loop 12. The other one will be in Fort Worth on I-35 near Braswell.
The billboards are going up by the efforts of Metroplex Atheists. In addition, the group will be launching a new Web site to coincide with the billboards going up.
The billboards have a blue background - sky, intermingled with white - clouds. The message will read "Don't believe in God? You are not alone." The have will have the new Web site address on them in the lower left hand corner. The address is www.dfwcor.org. That stands for Dallas Fort Worth Coalition of Reason.
According to a report, Terry McDonald of the Metroplex Atheists said, "We're not trying to attract people who believe in God. We're not trying to change their minds. It's to let those people who don't believe know that they're not alone and that there are a lot of groups that they can become involved in."
Dr. Darrell Bock of the Dallas Theological Seminary said that he thinks that people may be upset at first but that they would move passed those feelings. He said that "[p]eople pretty much have their minds made up on these kinds of matters. They're either going to be for or against. A lot of people will drive by and it will be the topic of conversation for a few days perhaps, but I don't think it's going to change very much."
The same billboards appear in Philadelphia and Denver.

That's pretty cool.
Of course, the theists are going to respond similarly and it'll become this huge, jihad-esque holy war. The message seems non-threatening, so why do people take offense to it? Believe what you want and stop trying to force your views on others.
How about getting some down here near San Antonio? We could especially use a Darwin billboard here in SBOE District 5 (Ken Mercer territory)
"it'll become this huge, jihad-esque holy war."
Sorry to rain on your parade Magnus, but atheist represent such a small insignificant number most people don't see them as a threat, but only as a bunch of leftist wingnuts.
"All religions are valid, NONE are literal." -Joseph Campbell
Absolute belief in any faith is absurd. Try researching "comparative mythology", and you'll get a deeper understanding of ALL world religions.
"god" = The Universe / "soul" = Consciousness
I would contribute to some of these in San Antonio.
The Scientific Evidence for the existence of God Already Exists, The only question is: What are you dong about it???
check it out, amitgoswami.org
Whoa there, mitri. You have been kidnapped. It's bad enough when a mainline christian tries to support their position in the real world, but when you then show out as a supporter of some batshit looney organization like the one you reference, you look monumentally stupid. The point of my little rant is simply this: If there were ANY evidence AT ALL for the existence of a god, a huge - really huge - number of atheists would totally re-think their positions. And as a bonus, you would be able to collect the 1 million dollars held in the James Randi foundation for scientific evidence of any paranormal event or activity. A great start would be for someone to show, conclusively, that an amputees limb had been restored through prayer. Never mind the cessation of the spread of aids and cancer worldwide.

How could anyone possibly be offended by this? It would have been nice if they had put a web address or something on the billboard. Lots of people with questions or doubts probably don't know where to look.
Sorry mitri, that's not evidence, that's someone religious saying we don't understand how it happens so goddidit. It's already known that the theory of relativity breaks down when you get to the quantum level, and scientists haven't come up with a proper unifying theory yet, though they are still working on it. When you fill that void with goddidit, you've given up on a scientific explanation.
If it were proven that God existed, I'd still not worship him.
a being responsible for that much horror, pain, suffering and death is not worthy of worship.
It's been told that anyone who's ever survived a plane crash - you won't find one atheist in the bunch...no, everyone one of them cries out for God when they're going down in a ball of fire.
Jacqueline,
That statement is as untrue as "there are no atheists in foxholes". Take it from an atheist who's been in a foxhole or two.
Interested people may want to make a note of this date: On May 17, 2009. The founder and brainchild behind this billboard will be speaking at the Ethical Culture Society of Bergen County in Teaneck, NJ. Look for ethicalfocus.org.
I pray now "God please bring the atheist something to believe in and a reason to pray".
Nope, still nothing.
Please love and respect yourself.
