The Westboro Baptist Church, famous for it's "God Hates Fags" signs and the picketing of soldier's funerals, has a new target in sight: Comic-Con in San Diego, California. Now when convention-goers dressed as their favorite hentai, Marvel, DC or Star Wars characters walk outside, they will encounter the real freaks and their picket signs... at least they will for the 45 minutes (1:15-2:00 pm) the protest is scheduled to last on Thursday, July 22nd.Why protest a comic-book convention? The Westboro Baptists are happy to explain:
Are you kidding?! If these people would spend even some of the energy that they spend on these comic books, reading the Bible, well no high hopes here. They have turned comic book characters into idols, and worship them they do! Isaiah 2:8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: 9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not. It is time to put away the silly vanities and turn to God like you mean it. The destruction of this nation is imminent - so start calling on Batman and Superman now, see if they can pull you from the mess that you have created with all your silly idolatry.
It is, however, nice to see the WBC get into the spirit of the comic convention. That line, "They have turned comic book characters into idols, and worship them they do!" has a distinct Yoda-like quality, doesn't it? In case they haven't made their case clear though, here's a little more from their July 7th press release:
Comic Con is an excuse for whores to wear skimpy get-ups (as if they don't already) without censure & for emulating rebels to compare costumes. Yikes. Put away your action figures and get about the business of serving your God. You fail as a human being because you shun your only obligation in this life: "Fear God and keep his commandments: for this is the sole duty of man" (Eccl: 12-13)...
You idolaters have far too much time on your hands! Get on with some sober obeying; the time is short.

I wouldn't bother to picket the Comics Convention. However, I would not read a modern comic book, either, for the same reason that I would not watch 999 movies out of 1000 that are made these days: because they attack the faith, and encourage bad behavior.
You don't watch movies or read comic books but pretend to know what they promote? Laughable. I've read The Bible from cover to cover, by the way. What kind of behavior does Deuteronomy 21:18 encourage?

How is it that when the WBC is successfully sued, they claim not to have any money' yet they travel all over the US attacking people.
Changing the subject slightly, the WBC is one of the reasons why organized religion inn this country has such a bad reputation.
I have been traveling a fair amount this year and it is rather expensive. I too am curious as to where they are hiding their money. And why no one is looking into this matter.
It this one of those things like the Synagogue not complaining about Jewish radicals? Or the Mosque not complaining about Islamists? Or the RCC not complaining about radical Christians?
I wonder if it is one of these things. And "they" secretly are enjoying what these "people" are doing.....>:)

Well for one God is supposed to be a loving and caring god. Do these people really think by judging others that they will get to heaven. I have read most of the bible and raised as a christian, and it does not say to attack thy neghbor. It says to be good to one another and do unto others as they would you. Now you can quote all the sriptures you want but that doesnt change the fact that he without sin cast the first stone. And this is exactly what they are doing.So cast that stone if ye is without sin. I bet you cant, because everyone has sinned at least once in there life.
God loves everyone sinners included.What this church is doing in the name of god is not what is in the bible.What they do at soilders funerals is so far from what the biblle teachs us..The families of these young men and woman should not be treated in such a horrible way by these so called baptists. I AM A BAPTISTI N TENN HERE IN TENN. We love thy neighbor,we love sinners, and when someone has a death in the family we bring them food ,we see if they need help paying for the funeral even if their love one was a sinner . It doesn't matter they are GOD'S children.No one should ever have to put up with protesters at a love one's funeral. This church has money to travel and protest why don't they take their hate and go to where our soilders are at and fight and protest there.Or they could take that money and really do GOD'S work by feeding ,clothing ,and helping the poor that's what JESUS would do.
