Festivals, night clubs and recreation complexes are among the many choices available for nightly entertainment in Fukuoka. The night is alive with activity in every direction. Whether in Tenjin or Hakata, people can be seen running about, shopping, playing video games, or trying their luck with Pachinko. Fukuoka is brightly lit. Bright flashing lights shine through rows and rows of crystalline windows along main streets, enticing visitors to some new hi-tech game.
Those not interested in gaming may be seen dining out. After all, the food in Fukuoka is excellent, and as for drinks, locally brewed beer and sake are among the choices!
New festivals
In Japan, it seems that fun is only limited by the imagination and the Japanese are very creative, so much so, that in the spring of 2000, in Fukuoka, people got together and created a new holiday festival. They dubbed it, "The Fukukoi Asian Festival". The pictures in this slideshow, of the Fukukoi Asian Festival, were first correctly identified as such by Travis Kim, an exchange student from Seoul. Travis can speak Japanese and is knowledgeable about Japanese culture. The festivals, he said, are called “Matsuri”, meaning festival, in Japanese. The Fukukoi Festival was created as a prayer for happiness and features a “Bon” style dance in traditional colorful Kimonos.
More information about the festival can be found at http://yokanavi.com/eg/landmark/index/238.
